Browns' Mekhi Blackmon: Starting vs. Carolina
Blackmon will start at outside cornerback against the Panthers on Sunday due to the absence of Tyson Campbell (ankle/hip/knee), Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Campbell will be held out of Sunday's game while nursing multiple lower-body injuries, so Blackmon and Denzel Ward will be the starting outside cornerbacks for the Browns in Week 3. Blackmon started in 11 of 17 regular-season games with the Colts in 2025 and finished the year with 64 tackles (50 solo), including 1.0 sacks, and seven pass defenses (including two interceptions).

Browns' Mekhi Blackmon: Heading to Cleveland
The Browns claimed Blackmon off waivers from the Colts on Friday, Howard Balzer of USA Today reports.
The move became official following the Browns' 37-13 preseason win over the Patriots on Thursday. Blackmon was able to play in all 17 regular-season games for the Colts last year after missing the entire 2024 campaign (as a member of the Vikings) due to a torn ACL. His addition gives the Browns extra depth at outside cornerback behind Denzel Ward and Tyson Campbell.

Mekhi Blackmon: Let go by Indianapolis
The Colts waived Blackmon on Wednesday.
Blackmon was traded to the Colts from the Vikings last August. The cornerback was recovering from a torn ACL that caused him to miss the entirety of the 2024 season, but he still managed to appear in all 17 regular-season games for the Colts. Blackmon will now be placed on waivers, and there is a good chance he is claimed by a team in need of 53-man cornerback depth. If the 27-year-old clears waivers, he will become a free agent able to sign with any franchise.

Blackmon didn't play at all for the Vikings in 2024 while recovering from a torn ACL. He was acquired by the Colts in late August and stayed healthy throughout the campaign, appearing in all 17 of Indianapolis' contests and making 11 starts. Blackmon finished fifth on the Colts in total tackles and tied for third in defensed passes, establishing himself as a key part of the team's defense.
