New Orleans signed White to its practice squad Monday.
White was released Sunday after missing the cut for the Saints' initial 53-man roster, but they brought him back to fill a spot on the practice squad. With Alvin Kamara (knee) and Kendre Miller (undisclosed) both tending to injuries, White could potentially end up being a candidate for elevation as early as Week 1.

Zamir White: Released by New Orleans
White was released by the Saints on Sunday, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
The Saints traded for White in exchange for Deion Jones on Aug. 23 while battling injuries in the backfield, but New Orleans has ultimately deemed the 2022 fourth-round pick of the Raiders unneeded on the 53-man roster. White, who has 736 career rushing yards in 45 regular-season games, will try to find an opportunity elsewhere but may have to settle for a spot on some team's practice squad.

Saints' Zamir White: Moving to Saints in trade
White is being traded from San Francisco to New Orleans on Sunday in exchange for linebacker Deion Jones, per sources, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
White signed with San Francisco on Aug. 12 and is moving to New Orleans in a trade less than two weeks later. The 2022 fourth-round pick of the Raiders rushed for 451 yards in the 2023 regular season, but he compiled only 285 yards across three other campaigns. The Saints are banged up in the backfield, with Alvin Kamara (knee), Devin Neal (hamstring) and Audric Estime (ankle) all sidelined, leaving the oft-injured Kendre Miller as the top healthy backup to Travis Etienne prior to White's arrival.

White ended his rookie contract with the Raiders in 2025 as a healthy scratch for the last 11 regular-season games, and he now has a chance to revitalize his career as a free agent. With Christian McCaffrey (undisclosed), Jordan James (ribs), Kaelon Black (thigh) and Isaac Guerendo (pectoral) all dealing with injury, White would presumably have a significantly easier path to preseason opportunity in San Francisco than other locales.

White took 12 total carries for 32 yards and caught four of six targets for 24 yards over six games in 2025.
White was a healthy scratch more often than not in the final season of his rookie contract with the Raiders, appearing in just six of 17 games while falling well behind Ashton Jeanty and Raheem Mostert (knee) in the pecking order at running back.
