Buccaneers' Josiah Trotter: Sidelined for Week 3
Trotter (shoulder) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Vikings.
Trotter was a limited participant in Friday's practice after opening the week with back-to-back DNPs. However, the rookie second-rounder has not progressed enough in his recovery from a shoulder injury to play Sunday, so he'll aim toward being available for Week 4 against Green Bay on Sunday, Oct. 4. One of Christian Rozeboom and SirVocea Dennis will start at inside linebacker next to Alex Anzalone in Trotter's absence.

Buccaneers' Josiah Trotter: Still idle due to shoulder injury
Trotter (shoulder) did not participate in Thursday's practice.
Trotter has opened Week 3 prep with back-to-back DNPs due to a shoulder injury he presumably sustained during this past Sunday's 23-19 loss to the Browns. He'll need to practice in at least a limited capacity Friday to have a realistic chance of playing this Sunday against the Vikings. SirVocea Dennis and Christian Rozeboom would be the top candidates to start alongside Alex Anzalone at inside linebacker if Trotter is unable to play.

Trotter (shoulder) did not participate at the Buccaneers' practice Wednesday.
Trotter is coming off of a 13-tackle performance in the team's 23-19 loss against the Browns on Sunday, and he may have suffered a shoulder injury during the game. The linebacker will have two more chances to return to practice prior to the team's Week 3 matchup with Minnesota.

Buccaneers' Josiah Trotter: Continues hot start to season
Trotter recorded 13 total tackles (six solo) during Sunday's 23-19 loss to the Browns.
Trotter was able to lead the team in tackles while exceeding double-digit takedowns for the second straight game to open his NFL regular-season career. The linebacker has now compiled 24 total tackles (10 solo), including 1.0 sacks, and a pick-six over two contests this year.

Buccaneers' Josiah Trotter: Standout day in loss
Trotter produced 11 tackles (four solo), including 1.0 sacks and two total tackles for loss, and added a pass defensed for a 38-yard pick-six during Sunday's 33-27 loss to the Bengals.
Despite a disappointing season-opening loss, Trotter had a field day. The linebacker was a disruptive force, producing a game-high tackle total. Trotter also recorded a late third-quarter pick-six on Joe Burrow that narrowed the Buccaneers' deficit to a touchdown at the time. The second-round rookie out of Missouri put together an outstanding first game, with Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reporting that Trotter is the only player since sacks became an official stat in 1982 to record a sack and a pick-six in his NFL debut.

Buccaneers' Josiah Trotter: Taken by Tampa Bay
The Buccaneers selected Trotter in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 46th overall.
Trotter will join Tampa Bay's first-round selection Rueben Bain to immediately revitalize head coach Todd Bowles' defense. After beginning his collegiate career at West Virginia, where he emerged as a starter in 2024, Trotter transferred to Missouri in 2025 and earned first-team All-SEC honors while leading the team with 84 tackles. The Buccaneers pursued a pair of established veterans in Alex Anzalone and Christian Rozeboom during free agency to anchor the inside linebacker position, but Trotter's proclivity for production as a run stopper may make it difficult to keep him out of the rotation. Having the benefit of a rookie year to develop prior to competing for starting snaps could help Trotter improve his skills in coverage.
