Saints' Travis Etienne: Could see larger role with Kamara sidelined
Etienne could be in store for a heavier workload to begin the season after teammate Alvin Kamara (knee) sustained an MCL sprain during Tuesday's joint practice with the Cowboys, Jeff Duncan of The Athletic reports.
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Kamara is expected to be sidelined for at least a month due to the knee injury, putting his availability for the Sept. 13 season opener in Detroit in jeopardy. The Saints had been listing Etienne and Kamara as co-starters on their unofficial depth chart, though Etienne always looked like the better bet to handle the brunt of the snaps on early downs after joining New Orleans on a four-year, $52 million deal in the offseason. With Kamara potentially set to miss time to begin the season or likely to be limited even if he's cleared for Week 1, Etienne could also be in store for an expanded role on passing downs until Kamara is closer to 100 percent health. The Kamara injury may also clear the way for a reserve running back such as Audric Estime (ankle), Devin Neal (hamstring) or Kendre Miller (back) to carve out a role behind Etienne, though those three players have also been banged up during training camp.

Saints' Travis Etienne: Co-starter with Kamara on depth chart
Etienne and Alvin Kamara are listed as co-RB1s on the Saints' first unofficial depth chart of training camp, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
After Etienne signed a four-year, $52 million contract with New Orleans in the offseason, he was expected to start over the incumbent Kamara, especially after the latter agreed to a reworked contract (one year, $6 million) in mid-July to stay with the team. Kamara has handled more of the third-down work in training camp, while Etienne has taken on early downs, but with the team now listing them as co-RB1s, there may be more of an even split between the two than initially thought. The depth chart listing could also simply be a sign of respect for a franchise icon as Kamara enters what could be his final season in New Orleans.

Saints' Travis Etienne: Ceding third-down work to Kamara?
Etienne has taken most of the early down reps at training camp, with Alvin Kamara is getting more of the third-down snaps, according to Jeff Duncan of Nola.com.
The workload split isn't surprising given Kamara's track record as a receiving weapon. We'll likely see a similar arrangement come Week 1, though it isn't yet clear if Kamara will also get some carries on early downs in relief of Etienne. The Saints signed Etienne to a four-year, $52 million contract in March, while Kamara's recent renegotiation leaves him with what's essentially a one-year, $6 million contract ($3.5 million guaranteed), per Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com.

Saints' Travis Etienne: Will share backfield with Kamara
Etienne's teammate, Alvin Kamara, has reportedly agreed to remain with the Saints this season on a reworked contract, Arye Pulli of USA Today reports.
There had been speculation Kamara could be on the move this offseason, but his amended deal paves the way for him to work in tandem with Etienne, who inked a four-year, $52 million deal with the Saints in March. Etienne -- who ran for 1,107 yards on 260 carries in 17 regular-season games with the Jaguars last season -- is poised to handle a significant portion of his new team's rushing workload in 2026, while Kamara, a versatile back with strong receiving skills, is available to see his share of touches as well.
