Top Hurricanes News

  • Hurricanes' Bradly Nadeau: Starts AHL season with two points

Nadeau scored a goal on three shots and added an assist in AHL Chicago's 4-1 win over Iowa on Saturday.

Nadeau is among the best prospects not playing in the NHL currently. The Hurricanes weren't able to make room for him out of training camp, but he's knocking on the door of a call-up. He torched the AHL for 32 goals and 58 points in 64 regular-season appearances last year and added an assist in two games at the NHL level. Keep an eye on Nadeau's production -- it might take only one injury in Carolina for the 20-year-old to get his chance.

  • Hurricanes' Domenick Fensore: Two points in minor-league game

Fensore scored a goal on two shots and added an assist in AHL Chicago's 4-1 win over Iowa on Saturday.

Fensore had 32 points over 67 regular-season games a year ago, and he earned his first two NHL appearances at the tail end of 2024-25. He'll likely need to a show a little more on offense to be a realistic call-up candidate for the Hurricanes this year, though that opportunity won't surface if Carolina's defense corps stays healthy.

  • Hurricanes' Jackson Blake: Assists in consecutive games

Blake recorded an assist, six shots on goal, two hits and two PIM in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Flyers.

Blake has earned a helper in each of the first two games this season while maintaining a top-six role. He's added 11 shots on net and a minus-1 rating. The Hurricanes signed him to an eight-year deal in the offseason, so he'll be part of the team's long-term plans and looks ready to provide great value. He had 34 points in 80 regular-season games as a rookie last year and could push for 20 goals and 40-50 points in 2025-26.

  • Hurricanes' Taylor Hall: Scores again Saturday

Hall scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Flyers.

Hall has two goals and an assist through two games this season. He's making the most of his fourth-line role, though that usage isn't as concerning on a team with plenty of depth throughout the lineup. Hall has added four shots on net and a plus-1 rating. As long as he can avoid slumps, he'll be a decent depth option in fantasy, particularly if he continues to see power-play minutes.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Lights lamp Saturday

Staal scored a goal on three shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Flyers.

Staal is back in his usual middle-six role this season, though he's averaged just 14:13 of ice time over the first two games. The 37-year-old has seen his ice time drop a little bit in recent years, and he primarily plays in shutdown situations. He's still reached the 30-point mark in five straight campaigns, and he remains a quality source of hits and plus-minus rating in deeper fantasy formats.

  • Hurricanes' Logan Stankoven: Tallies first goal of season

Stankoven scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Flyers.

Stankoven has gotten the first look as the second-line center this season. He's won 17 of his 33 faceoffs over two games while adding four shots on net and a minus-1 rating. The 22-year-old may have to sacrifice some offense as he adapts to the defensive duties involved with playing pivot, but he just needs to do a passable job to stay in the role, which previously belonged to Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Fantasy managers should still be excited about Stankoven's long-term scoring potential.

  • Hurricanes' Seth Jarvis: Rips home winner in OT

Jarvis scored the overtime winner in Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Flyers.

With just 17 seconds left on the clock, Jarvis rocketed a one-timer past Samuel Ersson from the faceoff dot, giving the 23-year-old winger the GWG in two straight contests to begin the season. Jarvis has three tallies in total, and after reaching the 30-goal plateau in each of the prior two campaigns, the 13th overall pick in the 2020 Draft could be ready to take his production to another level.

  • Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Hangs on for OT win

Andersen stopped 20 shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Flyers.

The veteran netminder gave up a goal in each period and appeared to allow an OT winner to Bobby Brink as well, only for the tally to get taken off the board upon video review due to goaltender interference. Seth Jarvis then took advantage of the second chance for Carolina, giving Andersen his second win in two starts. Andersen hasn't looked particularly sharp between the pipes to begin the campaign, allowing six goals on only 45 shots, but with Pyotr Kochetkov (lower body) out until at least next weekend, Andersen should see a heavy workload early.

  • Hurricanes' Justin Poirier: Productive weekend in NCAA play

Poirier scored three goals and added an assist over the University of Maine's two-game sweep over Holy Cross on Friday and Saturday.

Poirier had a hat trick in a 5-2 win over Friday before adding an assist in Saturday's 6-0 win. The prospect winger had back-to-back 80-point campaigns with QMJHL Baie-Comeau prior to moving to the NCAA. A fifth-round pick of the Hurricanes in 2024, Poirier's scoring touch looks to have followed him to college, where he'll look to establish himself in an older age group.

  • Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Sustains injury Saturday

Slavin is being evaluated for an undisclosed injury sustained in Saturday's game versus the Flyers, Ryan Henkel of The Hockey News reports.

Slavin came out of the game during the third period. The injury leaves him day-to-day ahead of Tuesday's contest in San Jose, which is the start of a six-game road trip out west for the Hurricanes. If Slavin misses time, Mike Reilly will enter the lineup.

  • Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Set to face Philadelphia

Andersen will play between the pipes in Saturday's home game against Philadelphia.

Andersen stopped 19 of 22 shots in a 6-3 win over New Jersey in his season debut Thursday. Andersen will likely split the workload fairly evenly with Pyotr Kochetkov (lower body) this season, but the 36-year-old Andersen will probably be leaned on heavily while Kochetkov is on the shelf. Brandon Bussi will be Andersen's understudy Saturday.

  • Hurricanes' Pyotr Kochetkov: Out for at least one week

Per Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer, Kochetkov (lower body) will miss at least one week of action, according to head coach Rod Brind'Amour on Saturday.

Kochetkov sat out Opening Night against New Jersey on Thursday and will miss at least the next three games. Still, Brind'Amour is hopeful that Kochetkov could travel with the Hurricanes on the team's upcoming six-game road trip, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports, which begins Tuesday against the Sharks. Frederik Andersen will probably continue to start in Kochetkov's absence, while Brandon Bussi will be the backup. Kochetkov was 27-16-3 with a 2.60 GAA and an .897 save percentage across 47 regular-season appearances in 2024-25.

  • Hurricanes' Alexander Nikishin: Collects assist Thursday

Nikishin recorded an assist in Thursday's 6-3 win over New Jersey.

It was Nikishin's first career regular-season game in the NHL, though he did already record an assist in four NHL playoff outings with Carolina last year. The 24-year-old also had a plus-3 rating, one shot, three hits and two blocks in Thursday's victory. It's a great start to the season for Nikishin, but keep in mind that he's serving on the third pairing and isn't expected to get regular power-play ice time, so his offensive contributions will likely be limited in 2025-26.

... See More ... See Less
  • Hurricanes' William Carrier: Gathers assist

Carrier notched an assist and two hits in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Devils.

Carrier brings a physical edge to a bottom-six role. He opened 2025-26 alongside Jordan Staal and Jordan Martinook on the Hurricanes' shutdown line. Carrier is arguably the most physical of the three -- he's topped the 100-hit mark in all but one of his first nine NHL campaigns despite missing the 50-game mark four times in that span. However, his offense peaked at 25 points in 56 games for the Golden Knights in 2025-26, and he was limited to just 11 points in 43 regular-season outings a year ago, so there's not a lot of scoring upside in his game.

... See More ... See Less
  • Hurricanes' Jordan Martinook: Slides helper Thursday

Martinook notched an assist, three shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Devils.

Martinook is back in his usual third-line role alongside Jordan Staal and William Carrier. While that trio won't get accolades for offense, they're among the top shutdown forwards in the league, providing a steady defensive backbone for head coach Rod Brind'Amour. Martinook did pretty well last year with a career-high 36 points in 79 regular-season contests. The 33-year-old can also chip in roughly a hit per game, so there's some value here in deep fantasy formats as long as his offense doesn't hit a steep decline.

... See More ... See Less
  • Hurricanes' Eric Robinson: Tallies in win

Robinson scored a goal on two shots, added two hits and went plus-2 in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Devils.

Robinson set career highs with 14 goals and 32 points in 82 regular-season games a year ago. He's off to a positive start again in 2025-26, though offense could be hard to come by in a fourth-line role. The depth of the Hurricanes' forward group makes it unlikely Robinson will see a stretch of time higher up the lineup, but he'll bring physicality and depth scoring in his role, assuming he can keep Mark Jankowski in the press box.

... See More ... See Less
  • Hurricanes' Taylor Hall: Goal, assist in victory

Hall banked a goal, an assist and a plus-1 rating in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Devils.

Hall opened the scoring at 4:06 of the first period, and he also secured the primary assist on Eric Robinson's goal with just 13 seconds remaining in the final frame. Hall saw just 12:16 of ice time in Thursday's win, as he's starting the year on the fourth line with Robinson and Jesperi Kotkaniemi. However, if Hall produces at a high level during the early portion of 2025-26, he could certainly find himself in an elevated role as the season progresses.

... See More ... See Less
  • Hurricanes' Sebastian Aho: Bags two apples in season opener

Aho generated two primary assists, including one on the power play, in 21:39 of ice time during Thursday's 6-3 win over New Jersey.

Both of Aho's helpers came in the final frame, as he set up goals by K'Andre Miller and Seth Jarvis, the latter of which ended up being the game-winner. The 28-year-old Aho could be in line for his best season yet, as he's being flanked by free-agent addition Nikolaj Ehlers, along with Seth Jarvis, on the top line. Aho also managed 4:51 of ice time with the man advantage Thursday, so he should have plenty of opportunities to rack up points in 2025-26.
