  • Flyers' Matthew Gard: Commits to MSU

Gard will join Michigan State University starting with the 2027-28 campaign, Jackie Spiegel of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Thursday. Gard is expected to remain with WHL Seattle next season before making the jump to the collegiate ranks. With the Thunderbirds this last season, the 2025 second-round pick notched 11 goals and 12 helpers in 32 regular-season tilts. Unless the 19-year-old center's offensive game improves drastically, he likely will spend a couple of seasons with the Spartans before getting a shot at the NHL.

  • Flyers' Matthew Gard: Pots pair of goals Tuesday

Gard scored twice in WHL Seattle's 7-3 win over Brandon on Tuesday. Gard's already earned eight points in nine games for the Thunderbirds, just two shy of his 23-game total with Red Deer before a January trade. The Flyers prospect has a total of 18 points in 32 outings, which is a slightly better pace than his 36-point effort in 66 regular-season contests in 2024-25. Momentum is on his side as he plays a big role for the Thunderbirds, which should propel him to career-best production.

  • Flyers' Matthew Gard: Tallies twice in WHL win

Gard scored two goals in WHL Seattle's 5-3 win over Portland on Saturday. Gard was traded to Seattle from Red Deer on Jan. 2. He's clicked with his new team, picking up three goals and two assists over five games with the Thunderbirds after posting just 10 points in 23 outings with the Rebels. The Flyers prospect appears to have just needed a change of scenery to unlock his offense.

  • Flyers' Matthew Gard: Collects two points in Red Deer win

Gard scored a goal and added an assist in WHL Red Deer's 5-2 win over Regina on Friday. Gard has picked up the pace lately, earning three goals and three assists over his last five games. He's at a total of eight points in nine outings in 2025-26, though that's still an improvement on last season, when he posted 0.55 points per game. The 18-year-old, a second-round pick of the Flyers, is still working on growing his offense while maintaining a steady defensive presence at center.

  • Flyers' Matthew Gard: Grabs two points in loss

Gard scored a goal on three shots, dished an assist and added 17 PIM in WHL Red Deer's 6-4 loss to Moose Jaw on Friday. Gard logged his first multi-point effort in five games this season. While he's trending a little better than his 36-point effort over 66 regular-season games last year, the 18-year-old has yet to display high-end offense. He'll likely evolve into a defensive forward if he's able to make it to the NHL.
