Farrell doubled his goal count on the year with his pair of tallies. He's found success as a playmaker so far with four goals and 11 assists over 18 games for the Rocket. Farrell has been placed on waivers by the Canadiens for the purpose of assigning him to AHL Laval, the team announced Sunday.
Farrell has yet to play a game in the NHL since a six-game stint in 2022-23 following the conclusion of his sophomore season at Harvard University. That will continue into at least the start of this campaign with his assignment to the minors. The 23-year-old had a good year with Laval in 2024-25, supplying 20 goals and 24 assists in 67 regular-season appearances.

Farrell scored his first career goal in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Panthers.
Farrell opened the scoring 1:23 minutes into the first period, firing a puck toward the net that snuck by Alex Lyon. It's Farrell's first NHL goal in just his second game. Farrell, a fourth-round pick in 2020 and one of the Canadiens' top prospects, logged 20 goals and 53 points in 34 NCAA games this season with Harvard. The 21-year-old winger should get an extended look down the stretch as Montreal looks to the future.

Farrell made his NHL debut Tuesday after his Harvard Crimson were eliminated from the NCAA Hockey Tournament by Ohio State last week. He was set up for his introduction, skating on the second line with Jonathan Drouin and Denis Gurianov, but failed to make an impact. Notably, a few hours before the game when asked about Farrell's readiness for primetime hockey in the NHL, head coach Martin St. Louis told Arpon Basu of The Athletic, that it was was a question for general manager Kent Hughes.
