Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Gets little help in loss
Sorokin made 20 saves in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Blues.
The 30-year-old netminder played well, but his teammates weren't able to solve Jordan Binnington until there were fewer than four minutes left in the third period. Sorokin has allowed three goals or fewer in eight straight starts, a stretch in which he's gone 5-2-1 with a dazzling .938 save percentage.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Clips Wings for second shutout
Sorokin made 29 saves in Thursday's 5-0 win over Detroit.
The veteran netminder was especially busy in the second period, turning aside all 15 shots he faced as the Red Wings tried to get back into the game after falling behind 2-0 in the first. It was Sorokin's second shutout of the season, both of which have come in November, and over six starts this month he's gone 4-1-1 with a stellar 1.80 GAA and .939 save percentage.

Sorokin will occupy the crease Sunday in Colorado, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
Sorokin has won three straight games and four of his last five, posting a 4-0-1 record, 1.75 GAA and .939 save percentage during that run of success. While the Russian netminder has turned things around after a shaky start to the season, he'll face an incredibly tough challenge against the league's top team Sunday. The Avalanche are 6-0-2 on home ice and have scored 74 goals through 18 games, which is seven more goals than any other team in the NHL.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Allows three goals in loss
Sorokin stopped 24 of 27 shots in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Avalanche. Colorado's third goal was an empty-netter.
The Avalanche scored twice in a span of 1:19 during the second period, and that was enough to stick Sorokin with the loss. In the final minute, Martin Necas scored an empty-netter and Brock Nelson tipped in a goal to put the game out of the Islanders' reach. Sorokin's three-game winning streak came to an end, but he has allowed a modest 12 goals over his last six outings to stabilize his season. The 30-year-old netminder is now 6-5-2 with a 2.91 GAA and an .898 save percentage through 13 starts. The Islanders' road trip takes them into another tough matchup when they visit Dallas on Tuesday.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Collects another overtime win
Sorokin stopped 26 of 29 shots in Thursday's 4-3 overtime win over the Golden Knights.
Things looked grim when the Islanders took a penalty in overtime, but Jean-Gabriel Pageau turned it around with a faceoff win into a shorthanded rush chance, which he buried for the game-winning goal. This was Sorokin's third straight win, and he's allowed just five goals on 97 shots in that span. For the season, the 30-year-old netminder is up to 6-4-2 with a 2.90 GAA and an .898 save percentage over 12 starts, but he's clearly trending up. David Rittich will start Friday in Utah, but Sorokin is likely to get the nod for Sunday's game in Colorado, which will be arguably his biggest test yet this season.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Expected to start Thursday in Vegas
Sorokin is scheduled to tend the road twine Thursday against the Golden Knights, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports Tuesday.

The Russian netminder had to be sharp in New Jersey on Monday -- the Devils generated 25 high-danger chances, per Andrew Gross of Newsday. Sorokin appears to be rounding into form after a slow start to the season, and he'll head to Vegas with a 5-4-2 record, 2.90 GAA and .898 save percentage over 11 starts.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: First goalie off Monday
Sorokin was the first goalie off during Monday's morning skate, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports, signaling that he'll draw the road start against New Jersey.
Sorokin is coming off his first shutout win of the season, as he turned aside all 33 shots he faced against the Rangers on Saturday. He'll attempt to remain effective against a more formidable opponent in the Devils, who have scored 3.40 goals per game this year, which ranks seventh in the NHL.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Shuts out division rival
Sorokin saved all 33 shots he faced in Saturday's 5-0 win over the Rangers.
Sorokin's first shutout of the season was a much-needed strong outing after a sluggish start to the year. Overall, the 30-year-old netminder has a 4-4-2 record with a 3.00 GAA and an .893 save percentage across 10 appearances. After three regulation losses to start the year, Sorokin has only one such defeat in his last seven games. His play is trending upward, and if Sorokin can continue to find the win column every other game, he can be trusted again in most fantasy formats. For now, however, it is good to have a backup plan if Sorokin falls back into a slump. His next chance to take the ice is Monday against New Jersey.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Shootout loss but signs of life
Sorokin made 24 saves in a 4-3 shootout loss to Boston on Tuesday.
He allowed just one goal in the shootout. Sorokin and the Isles continue to scuffle this season. He's 3-4-2 with a 3.33 GAA and an .879 save percentage in nine starts. That save percentage is 38th in the NHL. His GAA is 55th. Those simply don't compute with Sorokin's career averages of 2.60 GAA and .915 save percentage. There may be some signs of life, though. Sorokin has played four games (1-1-2) with new goalie coach Sergei Naumovs, who successfully coached the netminder in the KHL from 2018-2020. In the four games, Sorokin allowed four goals just once compared to four of his first five games with former goalie coach Piero Greco. You may be able to buy low now before Sorokin really starts to stabilize his game.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Sharp in win
Sorokin stopped 22 of 23 shots in Friday's 3-1 win over the Capitals.
Sorokin had allowed seven goals on 47 shots over his previous two outings. He bounced back with a strong performance Friday, which saw him give up nothing more than a Tom Wilson goal off a rebound. Sorokin improved to 3-4-1 with a 3.40 GAA and an .877 save percentage over eight starts. He's still got some work to do to repair the early damage to his numbers, but Sorokin is expected to receive plenty of playing time. The Islanders' next game is Sunday at home versus the Blue Jackets.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Struggles persist Tuesday
Sorokin stopped 17 of 21 shots in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Bruins. The fifth goal was an empty-netter.
Sorokin has allowed at least three goals in all seven of his starts this season, going 2-4-1. He's given up four goals in five of those outings, but he hasn't been worse than that yet. Tuesday's performance was a disappointment since the Islanders took an early 2-0 lead and Sorokin couldn't make it last, though two of the Bruins' four goals against him were on power plays. With a 3.75 GAA and an .868 save percentage so far, Sorokin's best attribute has been ample playing time. David Rittich will start Thursday's road game against the Hurricanes, and it's expected Sorokin will get the nod for Friday's road matchup versus the Capitals.

Sorokin is 2-3-1 with a 3.70 GAA and an .875 save percentage on the season. He gave up four goals in each of his first four games and has surrendered three in each of his last two.
