Sorokin will get the start for Tuesday's game against the Bruins, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Sorokin is backing up David Rittich against the Blue Jackets on Sunday, but Islanders head coach Patrick Roy volunteered that Sorokin would be the one between the pipes against the Bruins on Tuesday. The 30-year-old has not been his usual self so far this season, posting just a 3-4-1 record, a 3.40 GAA and an .877 save percentage. The Bruins have been off since Saturday's 2-1 win over the Hurricanes.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Sharp in win
Sorokin stopped 22 of 23 shots in Friday's 3-1 win over the Capitals.
Sorokin had allowed seven goals on 47 shots over his previous two outings. He bounced back with a strong performance Friday, which saw him give up nothing more than a Tom Wilson goal off a rebound. Sorokin improved to 3-4-1 with a 3.40 GAA and an .877 save percentage over eight starts. He's still got some work to do to repair the early damage to his numbers, but Sorokin is expected to receive plenty of playing time. The Islanders' next game is Sunday at home versus the Blue Jackets.

It has been a tough go for Sorokin this season, as he has allowed three goals on two occasions and four tallies in each of his other five games. Overall, Sorokin is 2-4-1 with a 3.75 GAA and an .868 save percentage over seven starts. The Capitals are 25th in NHL scoring, generating 2.70 goals per game.

Sorokin stopped 17 of 21 shots in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Bruins. The fifth goal was an empty-netter.
Sorokin has allowed at least three goals in all seven of his starts this season, going 2-4-1. He's given up four goals in five of those outings, but he hasn't been worse than that yet. Tuesday's performance was a disappointment since the Islanders took an early 2-0 lead and Sorokin couldn't make it last, though two of the Bruins' four goals against him were on power plays. With a 3.75 GAA and an .868 save percentage so far, Sorokin's best attribute has been ample playing time. David Rittich will start Thursday's road game against the Hurricanes, and it's expected Sorokin will get the nod for Friday's road matchup versus the Capitals.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Drops third straight start
Sorokin saved 21 of 25 shots in Monday's 5-2 loss to Winnipeg. The Jets' fifth goal was an empty-netter.
Sorokin surrendered two goals in each of the first two periods, including a power-play tally from Nino Niederreiter midway through the first period. Outside of the first 32 minutes, Sorokin then kept the Jets off the scoresheet with the lone goal of the third period being scored on an empty net by Mark Schiefele. Through three starts this season, Sorokin has a 0-3-0 record, a 4.18 GAA and an .854 save percentage. It's an unfortunate start to the year for Sorokin, who made small improvements and won 30 games in 61 regular-season appearances during the 2024-25 campaign. If the 30-year-old's sluggish start continues, it might be tough to start him in standard leagues. For the time being, Sorokin has solid value in fantasy overall, as he should continue to see a large workload in net. He will likely take a breather sometime in the next few contests when newly-acquired David Rittich makes his debut for the team, but Sorokin should see a workhorse load of games over the next few weeks.

Sorokin struggled early, allowing the first four goals of the game across 36 minutes. However, he kept the Capitals off the scoresheet in the third period. It's an unfortunate start to the season for Sorokin, who was one of 10 goalies to reach the 30-win mark last season. Despite the early struggles, Sorokin's is in no danger of ceding his starting role to David Rittich. If the Islanders can strengthen their defensive play in front of Sorokin, he could continue to build upon his solid campaign from last season, giving him upside in all fantasy formats.

Justin Brazeau got sprung for a clear rush from the blue line against Sorokin late in the third period, and the 30-year-old netminder wasn't able to come up with another big stop to preserve a 3-3 tie. The Islanders are projected to be one of the weaker squads in the NHL this season, which will likely prevent Sorokin from regaining the elite ratios he was posting a couple years ago, but with Semyon Varlamov (knee) out indefinitely and David Rittich as his primary backup, he could also be headed for a career-high workload -- he's handled between 52 and 62 appearances in each of the last four seasons.
