  • Sabres' Owen Power: Removed from IR

Power (illness) was activated from injured reserve Saturday. Power could make his season debut in Saturday's matchup against Boston. He missed time during training camp due to a minor strain, which resulted in him starting the 2025-26 campaign on injured reserve, but he sat out Thursday's season opener versus the Rangers because of an illness. The 22-year-old defender had seven goals, 40 points, 139 shots on net and 109 blocked shots across 79 regular-season appearances in 2024-25.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Unavailable Thursday

Power (illness) won't play in Thursday's tilt against the Rangers. Power was put on injured reserve Monday due to a muscle strain. He was originally slated to play Thursday, but the Sabres are now reporting that he's day-to-day because of an illness. It's not clear if Power has recovered from his strain or if he's still dealing with that in addition to the illness. Either way, his next opportunity to play will be Saturday in Boston.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Slated to play Thursday

Head coach Lindy Ruff said Wednesday that Power (strain) should be available for Thursday's Opening Night matchup against the Rangers, Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic reports. Power was placed on injured reserve Monday due to a minor strain, but it doesn't appear as though he'll be forced to miss time to begin the regular season. The 22-year-old made 79 regular-season appearances last year, racking up seven goals, 33 assists, 109 blocked shots, 26 hits and 16 PIM while averaging 21:19 of ice time.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Shifts to IR

Power (strain) landed on injured reserve Monday. Power is in danger of missing the regular-season opener Thursday against the Rangers, though it's unclear exactly how long he'll be sidelined for. Michael Kesselring (undisclosed) was also placed on injured reserve Monday, so Rasmus Dahlin and Bowen Byram will likely log heavy minutes during the early portion of the campaign. Power hit the 40-point mark for the first time in his career (seven goals, 33 helpers) in 2024-25, so he should be a key player for the Sabres when healthy this year.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Won't play Friday

Power (strain) will not be in the lineup to face Pittsburgh on Friday, Heather Engel of NHL.com reports. Power's absence against the Penguins on Wednesday was described as a minor strain, but now the blueliner finds himself missing a second straight game, albeit a minor-league one. If Power can't suit up for Opening Night versus the Rangers on Thursday, the team will have to hope one or both of Mattias Samuelsson (upper body) or Michael Kesselring (undisclosed) return to 100 percent to avoid having to go with an untested blue line.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Out Wednesday

Power, who is dealing with a minor strain, won't participate in Wednesday's preseason game against Pittsburgh. Power is day-to-day due to the injury, so he still might be an option for Friday's exhibition tilt against the Penguins. Provided he's healthy, Power is expected to start 2025-26 as part of the Sabres' top four. If he isn't available for the start of the regular season, then that would increase the chances of Jacob Bryson dressing for Buffalo's season opener against the Rangers on Oct. 9.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Contending with minor strain

Head coach Lindy Ruff conveyed Tuesday that Power is dealing with a minor strain and is day-to-day, according to Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News. Ruff didn't rule out Power from suiting up in Wednesday's preseason game versus Pittsburgh, but it seems unlikely that the 22-year-old defenseman will be available for that matchup. It's unclear if Power's strain is related to the lower-body injury that kept him out for the last three games of the 2024-25 campaign, but his status will be worth monitoring ahead of the Sabres' regular-season opener against the Rangers on Oct. 9.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Needs two months to recover

Power said Saturday that he will need two months to recover from his lower-body injury, but he will not need surgery, Heather Engel of NHL.com reports. Power missed the final three games of the season with the injury. He had career bests in goals, with seven, and assists, with 33, as the third-year defenseman ended up with 40 points in 79 outings. Power should be ready for the start of training camp in September.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Dealing with serious injury

Power's lower-body injury appears to be serious, according to head coach Lindy Ruff, and surgery hasn't been ruled out yet, Luke Fox of Sportsnet reports Tuesday. Power will miss the final two games of the Sabres' 2024-25 campaign, having racked up career highs in both goals (seven) and assists (33) in 79 games this year. Unless it's a long-term problem, Power should be ready to play next season and should be capable of once again reaching that 40-point threshold, which set him up well as a top-half fantasy target.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Season likely over

Power (lower body) will be evaluated when the team returns to Buffalo, but he's expected to be out "a while," according to head coach Lindy Ruff, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports Sunday. The Sabres have only two games remaining on their schedule, and considering Ruff's comment, Power's season is likely over. If that's the case, he'll conclude 2024-25 with seven goals and 40 points over 79 appearances. A more substantial update on Power's status should be available after he's evaluated by the club's doctors.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Not expected to play Sunday

Power (lower body) is doubtful for Sunday's clash against Tampa Bay, per Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News. Power left Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to Florida due to the injury. He recorded a shot in 13:27 of ice time before exiting the game. With Power poised to sit, Jacob Bryson will probably draw into Sunday's lineup.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Suffers injury Saturday

Power (undisclosed) won't finish Saturday's game versus the Panthers. Power didn't come out for the third period, and the Sabres announced he would miss at least the remainder of Saturday's matchup. Still, it's unclear if the defenseman will return in the Sabres' last three contests of 2024-25, including Sunday's contest against the Lightning. If Power misses time, Jacob Bryson will draw back into the lineup.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Erupts for three points

Power tallied a goal, registered two assists, had two shots on goal and blocked two shots in Monday's 3-2 overtime win against the Bruins. Monday was Power's best all-around performance this season, as he filled the stat sheet in almost all areas. His marker was the lone goal of the second period and would ultimately send the game to overtime. Both of Power's assists were on separate power plays, and the latter of his two helpers was a shot redirected by Alex Tuch for the game-winning goal. With his performance Monday, Power is up to seven goals, 28 assists, 122 shots on net and 100 blocks in 66 appearances this season. The 22-year-old blueliner set a new career high in goals Monday and tied his career high for points in a season with 35. Power ranks third on the Sabres in helpers and has a bright future in the NHL. In fantasy, Power is heating up and has good value in deeper leagues with the postseason approaching.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Compiles counting stats in loss

Power fired two shots on goal, blocked three shots and recorded one hit in Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Canadiens. Power remains one of the most valuable defensemen on the Sabres, regularly filling up the stat sheet even when he's not scoring. He's failed to log a point in three consecutive games, but it was preceded by a stretch of points in six of seven games, so there's nothing to worry about with Power. He has 31 points (six goals) through 59 appearances in 2024-25, putting him on pace to shatter his career best in points (35) in his young career. The 22-year-old remains a good fantasy option.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Produces helper with man advantage

Power logged a power-play assist, three shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Predators. Power has a helper in five of the last six contests, but this was his first point with the man advantage since Jan. 17 versus the Penguins. The defenseman is up to 29 points, 105 shots on net, 83 blocked shots and a minus-10 rating across 54 appearances. He's earned just two of his points on the power play, but he remains on track for a career year that could end up north of the 40-point mark.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Extends point streak in victory

Power compiled an assist, a team-high nine shots on net, two hits, and a plus-2 rating Sunday in a 4-3 win over the Devils. Power registered the primary helper on Tage Thompson's game-opening goal in the first period. Power is starting to heating up -- he's logged an assist in four straight games. The 22-year-old is up to six goals and 28 points over 52 appearances while filling a top-four role in addition to a spot on the No. 2 power-play unit.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Sends helper in loss

Power notched an assist and two shots on goal in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Oilers. Power has struggled with just three points and a minus-4 rating over 11 appearances in January. The 22-year-old defenseman has 25 points, 86 shots on net, 75 blocked shots and a minus-11 rating through 49 outings overall. He's still on pace for a career year and is unlikely to lose his spots on the second pairing or second power-play unit, but he'll be tough to roster in fantasy if his offense doesn't get back on track.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Nets first career power-play goal

Power scored a power-play goal on two shots and went minus-2 in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Penguins. This was Power's first career power-play goal and his first point with the man advantage this season. Despite his lack of special-teams production, he's pushing to reach the 40-point mark for the first time in his career. He's matched his career high with six goals while adding 17 assists, 79 shots on net, 69 blocked shots and a minus-9 rating through 45 appearances this season.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Scores, assists Friday

Power posted one goal and one assist in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Maple Leafs. Power has been productive of late and has cracked the scoresheet in five of the Sabres' last seven games, tallying two goals and five assists over that stretch. The 22-year-old is on pace to have a career-best season offensively in 2024-25. After recording 35 and 33 points in each of the last two campaigns, Power is up to 22 points (five goals, 17 assists) through 33 contests.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Earns two points in loss

Power scored a goal on three shots and added an assist in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Rangers. The game didn't start well -- Power failed to clear a puck on the penalty kill, ultimately leading to the Rangers' first goal. He was benched for the rest of the first period, but he stepped up and made an impact in the third, though the Sabres still fell a goal short. The blueliner is on a three-game point streak with a goal and three helpers in that span, but the Sabres have lost eight straight since beating the Sharks by a 4-2 score Nov. 23. Power has 19 points, 53 shots on net, 47 blocked shots and a minus-1 rating over 29 outings, though there may still be some teachable moments ahead if the team continues to struggle.
