Amir Miftakhov: Heading to KHL
Miftakhov signed a two-year contract with the KHL's Shanghai Dragons on Wednesday.
Miftakhov had a 3.25 GAA and an .888 save percentage in 28 regular-season outings with AHL Chicago in 2025-26. Although the 26-year-old hasn't played for Shanghai before, he has spent parts of five seasons in the KHL. Most recently, he posted a 2.18 GAA and a .927 save percentage in 30 regular-season appearances with KHL Kazan.

Amir Miftakhov: Set to become free agent
Miftakhov didn't receive a qualifying offer from Carolina and will become an unrestricted free agent Wednesday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Miftakhov hasn't yet made his NHL debut, but he was a decent contributor during his first year with AHL Chicago in 2025-26, going 12-8-7 with a 3.25 GAA and .888 save percentage. He'll be able to seek out other opportunities ahead of the 2026-27 campaign but will likely need to settle for a minor-league role once again.

Miftakhov was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Friday, per AHL.com.
Miftakhov gave the Canes four goaltenders on the roster ahead of Game 5 versus Vegas on Thursday, but he is expected to link back up with the Wolves, who are playing in the Calder Cup Finals. In 28 regular-season games for AHL Chicago this year, the 26-year-old backstop went 12-8-7 with a 3.25 GAA and .888 save percentage.

Hurricanes' Amir Miftakhov: Up from minors
Miftakhov was promoted from AHL Chicago on Thursday, per Patrick Williams of TheAHL.com.
The Wolves are set to play AHL Toronto in Game 1 of the Calder Cup FInals on Friday, so Miftakhov's promotion is somewhat surprising. Miftakhov has a 2.36 GAA and a .940 save percentage in three AHL playoff outings this year, and he played in Games 6 and 7 of the Western Conference Finals. If Carolina is promoting him despite his worth to AHL Chicago, then the Hurricanes might be dealing with a goaltender injury. Aside from Miftakhov, netminders Frederik Andersen, Brandon Bussi and Pyotr Kochetkov are on Carolina's active roster.

Miftakhov recorded a 20-save shutout in AHL Chicago's 3-0 win over Milwaukee on Saturday.
This was Miftakhov's 50th career AHL game. He's up to 12-8-7 with a 3.25 GAA and an .888 save percentage over 28 outings this season, which includes a pair of shutouts. Miftakhov and Cayden Primeau will handle the goaltending for the Wolves without having to interrupt the team's rhythm, as the Hurricanes already have three goalies on their NHL roster for the playoffs.

Hurricanes' Amir Miftakhov: Shuts out Iowa
Miftakhov posted a 25-save shutout in AHL Chicago's 4-0 win over Iowa on Saturday.
This was a timely shutout for Miftakhov, as the Hurricanes reclaimed Cayden Primeau off waivers from the Maple Leafs on Saturday. Primeau didn't receive a claim from any other team, so he will be joining the Wolves, but Miftakhov probably won't be fully pushed aside. Through six outings, Miftakhov has a 3-2-1 record with a 2.65 GAA and an .897 save percentage. However, with Brandon Bussi in the NHL alongside Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov, Miftakhov is no higher than fifth on the Hurricanes' organizational depth chart in goal.

Miftakhov is back in North America on a one-year, two-way contract with the Hurricanes after spending the past three years in the KHL. The 25-year-old seems to be the fourth-string goaltender on the organization's depth chart, so he will likely spend the vast majority of the season with Chicago. He posted a 13-11-3 record, 2.18 GAA and .927 save percentage in 30 regular-season games with Ak Bars Kazan last year.
