  • Islanders' David Rittich: Keeps streak alive with shutout

Rittich posted a 19-save shutout in Sunday's 1-0 shootout win over the Kraken. Rittich didn't have much work in this game, as the 19 shots faced were a season low for the 33-year-old veteran, but he still responded when needed. This was his first shutout of the season, and it also extended Rittich's winning streak to three starts. Over that stretch, he's allowed just four goals on 72 shots for an impressive .944 save percentage. The Islanders seem to be rotating goaltenders, so there's a reasonable chance Rittich won't be defending the crease against the Bruins on Wednesday.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Starting Sunday

Rittich will protect the home net against Seattle on Sunday, per Andrew Gross of Newsday. Rittich will get the second half of the Islanders' back-to-back after Ilya Sorokin plays in Saturday's home matchup against St. Louis. The 33-year-old Rittich has won his last two outings, stopping 49 of 53 shots. He has a 5-2-0 record while allowing 21 goals on 202 shots. Seattle ranks 27th in the league with 2.70 goals per game this campaign.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Nabs win in Dallas

Rittich turned aside 22 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Stars. The veteran backup to Ilya Sorokin had an answer for every Dallas skater except Jason Robertson, who got pucks by him in the second and third periods. Rittich has allowed exactly two goals in all five of his wins this season. However, the 11 goals on 60 shots he surrendered in his two losses leave him with a 2.99 GAA and an .896 save percentage.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Tending twine in Dallas

Rittich is scheduled to patrol the road blue paint Tuesday versus the Stars, according to Andrew Gross of Newsday. Rittich was sharp in his last start, stopping 27 of 29 shots in a 3-2 overtime win over the Mammoth on Friday. The 33-year-old owns a 4-2-0 record, 3.15 GAA and .893 save percentage across six appearances in 2025-26. As for the Stars, they have scored 22 goals during their active five-game winning streak.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Secures overtime win

Rittich stopped 27 of 29 shots in Friday's 3-2 overtime win over the Mammoth. Rittich had gone three games without a start, matching his longest stint on the bench this season. He had to play in the second half of a back-to-back, which saw the Islanders start a little sluggish and then find their way into the game later. Rittich is 4-2-0 on the year, and he's allowed exactly two goals in each of his victories while struggling more heavily in his losses. Ilya Sorokin will still get the bulk of the starts for the Islanders and will likely handle an immensely challenging start Sunday in Colorado.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Set to start Friday

Rittich is expected to defend the cage on the road versus Utah on Friday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports. Rittich will take the second game of the Islanders' back-to-back, while Ilya Sorokin gets the nod on the road versus Vegas on Thursday. In his five outings this year, the 33-year-old Rittich has logged a 3-2-0 record to go with a 3.41 GAA and zero shutouts.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Subpar showing Friday

Rittich stopped 21 of 26 shots in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Wild. Rittich has started in three of the Islanders' last five games, but his numbers haven't been encouraging. He's gone 1-2-0 with a 4.34 GAA and an .841 save percentage over that span. It's hard to trust Rittich to perform well in any fantasy format. He's gone 3-2-0 with a 3.41 GAA and an .886 save percentage through five appearances this season.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: In goal Friday

Rittich will get the starting nod for Friday's home game against the Wild, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports. Rittich will take the first game of the Isles' back-to-back before Ilya Sorokin tends the twine on the road versus the Rangers on Saturday. It will be the fifth appearance of the season for the 33-year-old Rittich, having gone 3-1-0 with a 3.01 GAA in his previous four outings. If Rittich can keep racking up wins, he could force head coach Patrick Roy to give him some more opportunities down the stretch.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Third win in four tries

Rittich stopped 20 of 22 shots in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets. Rittich allowed just one goal inside the first 50 minutes of regulation before the Blue Jackets took a brief lead, which was then taken back by New York with two goals in the final two minutes. With the win, the 33-year-old goaltender has a 3-1-0 record with a 3.01 GAA and a .902 save percentage across four appearances. Sunday's start was his second appearance in three games, which is a stretch of action he hasn't seen yet this season. With starting goaltender Ilya Sorokin facing struggles in the early stages of this season, Rittich might get a few extra opportunities in the backup role to keep Sorokin fresh. With three wins to start the season, Rittich is a solid spot start in fantasy for the time being.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Making third home start

Rittich will get the start in net for Sunday's game against the Blue Jackets, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports. The Islanders have only had one back-to-back so far this season, so the team has had to be creative in finding ways to get Rittich work. He'll be starting for the fourth time this season Sunday. The 33-year-old will look to rebound from his worst start of the year, in which Rittich surrendered six goals on 34 shots against the Hurricanes. The Blue Jackets come in on a four-game winning streak.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Set to start Thursday

Rittich is slated to start Thursday's road game against Carolina, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports. While Rittich has served as the Islanders' No. 2 netminder early in the season, he's been effective in limited action, going 2-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .940 save percentage over two starts. He'll face a tough road test Thursday, as the Hurricanes are averaging 3.75 goals per game to begin the season, which is tied for the second-best mark in the NHL.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Starting against Detroit

Rittich will patrol the home crease against Detroit on Thursday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports. Rittich will make his second start of the season after Ilya Sorokin plays in Tuesday's home matchup versus San Jose. The 33-year-old Rittich stopped 31 shots in a 4-2 win over Edmonton on Thursday. Detroit ranks ninth in the league with 3.33 goals per game this season, and the team will visit the Sabres on Wednesday before facing the Islanders.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Earns win in Isles debut

Rittich stopped 31 of 33 shots in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Oilers. Rittich was making his first start of the season, and while the Oilers were a difficult matchup on paper, the 33-year-old veteran had a solid performance to secure the win in his Islanders debut. However, Rittich is expected to serve as the No. 2 goaltender behind Ilya Sorokin, so Rittich's not likely to be a regular between the pipes for the Isles, leaving his fantasy upside tied to a matchup-based scenario.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Set to start Thursday

Rittich is expected to start at home against Edmonton on Thursday, per Andrew Gross of Newsday. It will be Rittich's first start of the season, and his first as a member of the Islanders. He had a 16-14-2 record, 2.84 GAA and .886 save percentage in 34 regular-season appearances with the Kings last year. Rittich is serving as the Islanders' No. 2 goaltender, and he's unlikely to get many starts behind Ilya Sorokin.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: First goalie off Monday

Rittich was the first goalie off during Monday's morning skate, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports, signaling that he'll get the preseason start at home against the Rangers. The Islanders are playing their penultimate preseason game Monday, so it could be Rittich's final opportunity to make his case for the No. 2 netminder job behind Ilya Sorokin. Rittich wasn't particularly effective during his preseason debut against the Rangers on Thursday, as he turned aside 20 of 24 shots while playing two periods. He may need to have a stronger performance Monday if he hopes to stave off Marcus Hogberg for the backup job while Semyon Varlamov (knee) remains out, even though Hogberg has also had some struggles during preseason play.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Slated to start Thursday

Rittich is expected to defend visiting crease versus the Rangers on Thursday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports. Rittich will be backed up by Marcus Hogberg as Ilya Sorokin gets the night off. Rittich was the backup goaltender for the Kings in 2024-25, going 16-14-2 with a 2.84 GAA and an .886 save percentage across 34 regular-season games. Rittich will battle the injured Semyon Varlamov (knee) and Hogberg for the No. 2 spot with the Islanders in 2025-26.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Pens one-year contract

Rittich put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the Islanders on Tuesday. Rittich will join a crowded goalie room that already includes Ilya Sorokin, Semyon Varlamov (knee) and Marcus Hogberg. While it's clear Sorokin will enter the 2025-26 campaign as the No. 1 option, there figures to be a three-way competition for the backup job now that Rittich is in the mix. With the Kings last year, Rittich went 16-14-2 with a 2.84 GAA and an .886 save percentage.

  • Kings' David Rittich: Yields five goals in loss

Rittich gave up five goals on 29 shots in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Flames. The Kings rested some players and managed the minutes of others. Rittich held on well for two periods, but the Flames scored four times over 5:30 in the middle of the third to take the regular-season finale. Rittich ends at 16-14-2 with a 2.84 GAA and an .886 save percentage over 34 outings. He won't play much in the playoffs, as Darcy Kuemper is expected to handle to No. 1 job from the get-go when the Kings host the Oilers on Monday for Game 1.

  • Kings' David Rittich: Will start finale

Rittich will get the start at home Thursday versus the Flames. Previous reports indicated Darcy Kuemper was expected, but the Kings will instead go with Rittich against one of his former teams to close out the regular season. Rittich is unlikely to see much playing time in the playoffs, so this could be his last action for a while. He's gone 16-13-2 with a 2.77 GAA and an .888 save percentage over 33 appearances in the backup role this season.

  • Kings' David Rittich: Fades late but still wins

Rittich stopped 29 of 34 shots in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Kraken. Rittich gave up the last three goals of the game, but the Kings had built up enough of a lead to withstand that damage. The 32-year-old has appeared in the last two games, so he should be ready to roll as the backup for the postseason, though it's unclear who the Kings will have in goal Thursday versus the Flames. Rittich improved to 16-13-2 with this win, but his GAA rose to 2.77 while his save percentage dropped to .888 over 33 appearances. Once the first-round series versus the Oilers begins, expect Darcy Kuemper to handle the lion's share of the starts.
