Rust has racked up 14 points in 13 games to open the season, including seven power-play points, despite having been limited to just three helpers in the opening six contests. Rust scored an even-strength goal and added a power-play assist in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Wild.
Rust notched his fourth goal of the season -- and the eventual game-winner -- with a tip-in at the 6:29 mark of the third period. The right winger would also add an assist on Benjamin Kindel's power-play tally later in the same frame. This was Rust's second multi-point game of the season, and he also pushed his point streak to five games, a stretch in which he's recorded eight points (four goals, four helpers).

The 33-year-old winger opened the scoring just 39 seconds into the first period before giving the Penguins a 4-2 lead only 42 seconds into the third by redirecting a shot-pass from the blue line by Erik Karlsson. Rust was expected to be on the trade block this season for a rebuilding Pittsburgh squad, but the team's 7-2-1 start may be changing that equation. Monday's eruption was Rust's first multi-point performance of the season, and after sitting out the first two games with a lower-body injury, he's collected three goals and seven points in eight contests.

Penguins' Bryan Rust: Forces overtime Saturday
Rust scored a goal on three shots and blocked three shots in Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Blue Jackets.
Rust's game-tying goal with 3:06 left in regulation was enough to earn the Penguins one point in the standings. It was the winger's first goal of the campaign, and he's added three assists over seven contests. Rust will be leaned on to pick up some of the scoring slack in the absence of Rickard Rakell (hand), who is out for 6-8 weeks after sustaining an injury Saturday and undergoing surgery Sunday. After sitting out the first two games of the 2025-26 campaign, Rust will likely make his season debut in Saturday's matchup against the Rangers. He had 31 goals, 65 points, 191 shots on net, 54 blocked shots and 62 hits across 71 appearances during the 2024-25 regular season. Rust will probably occupy a top-six role and see time on the power play in Saturday's game.

Rust remains on injured reserve due to his lower-body injury, but he participated in Thursday's morning skate, signaling that he's drawing closer to a return. However, he remained on the ice with the scratches following morning skate and will officially be sidelined for a second consecutive game to begin the regular season. The Penguins announced Thursday that Rust will miss a minimum of two weeks due to a lower-body injury.
Rust departed Wednesday's practice session early, and his exit was apparently due to his injury that will force him to miss multiple weeks. The 33-year-old will be unavailable for at least the first week of the regular season, and he'll presumably be re-evaluated around the end of his two-week return timetable. Rust made 71 regular-season appearances for Pittsburgh last year and racked up 31 goals, 34 assists, 62 hits, 54 blocked shots and 18 PIM while averaging 19:45 of ice time.
