Eric Weddle: Announces re-retirement
Weddle (pectoral) said Sunday after the Rams' 23-20 win over the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI that he will retire from football, Jordan Mendoza of USA Today reports.
When their depth at safety was decimated by injuries heading into the postseason, the Rams were able to coax Weddle out of retirement after he had previously hung up his cleats two years earlier. The 37-year-old officially signed with Los Angeles' practice squad Jan. 12 and was elevated to the roster ahead of each of the team's four playoff contests, finishing with 18 tackles across those contests. He was on the field for all 61 of the Rams' defensive snaps in the Super Bowl victory, despite suffering a torn pectoral muscle in the first quarter of the contest. Weddle will soon undergo surgery to address the injury, but his strong showing in the postseason hasn't reinvigorated a desire to keep playing during the 2022 campaign. The six-time Pro Bowler acknowledged after the game that making a brief comeback to capture his first Super Bowl ring was enough for him to walk away from the game without any regrets.

Rams' Eric Weddle: Believed to have torn pec
Weddle suffered an apparent torn pectoral in the first quarter of Super Bowl LVI against the Bengals on Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Weddle briefly received medical attention during the first quarter of Sunday's matchup but was able to play through the injury for the remainder of the game. He finished with five tackles (four solo). The 37-year-old is expected to retire once again during the offseason after playing a sizable role in the Rams' championship run.
