Blackmon was released Friday by the Redskins, Mike Jones of The Washington Post reports.
Blackmon agreed to a two-year deal with the Redskins last offseason after a strong showing with the team in 2015. After a 2016 campaign riddled with injuries, Blackmon became an expendable reserve option in the team's secondary.

Blackmon has been undergoing concussion protocol since Dec. 5, but finally appears on track to return to action. After being limited in practice earlier in the week, the safety was able to log a full workload Saturday. However, his final status will not be determined until closer to game time Monday.

Blackmon joined the Redskins as a veteran depth signing ahead of last season, but surpassed expectations by compiling a career-best 49 tackles, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries over the course of the campaign. At 31 years old, Blackmon now finds himself as one of Washington's top cornerbacks heading into the upcoming season, when he'll hope to build on his 2015 success.
