  • Tre Hawkins: Waived with injury designation

Hawkins (undisclosed) was waived with an injury designation by the Giants on Tuesday, Dan Salomone of the team's official website reports. Hawkins missed all three of the Giants' preseason contests, which could be due to the undisclosed injury he's dealing with. If the cornerback clears waivers, he will revert to injured reserve with New York for the 2025 season.

  • Giants' Tre Hawkins: Participating in OTAs

Hawkins (back) has been participating in the Giants' OTAs this week, John Schmeelk of the team's official website reports. Hawkins missed all but three regular-season games last season due to ankle and back issues. He didn't play after Week 14 but appears to be healthy headed into the 2025 offseason workout program. Hawkins was a 2023 sixth-round pick by the G-Men.

  • Giants' Tre Hawkins: Likely out for season

Hawkins suffered a fractured lumbar spine in Sunday's 14-11 loss to the Saints and is likely to miss the rest of the season, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. The Old Dominion product had six combined tackles and his first career interception before exiting Sunday's game. Assuming the Giants place him on injured reserve in the coming days, Hawkins will finish his second NFL season with 10 tackles and two pass breakups over three appearances.

  • Giants' Tre Hawkins: Questionable for Week 8

The Giants announced Saturday that Hawkins (ankle) is questionable for Monday's game against the Steelers, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Hawkins played 35 percent of defensive snaps Week 7 versus the Eagles, and he appears to have picked up an ankle injury during the contest. If he's able to gain clearance for Monday Night Football, he'll figure to once again handle a depth role in New York's secondary.

  • Giants' Tre Hawkins: Misses practice Thursday

Hawkins (ankle) did not participate at the Giants' practice Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Hawkins popped up on the injury report Thursday, dealing with an apparent ankle injury after he recorded four solo tackles in the team's 28-3 loss to the Eagles in Week 7. The cornerback will have two more chances to return to the practice field prior to Monday's matchup with the Steelers.

  • Giants' Tre Hawkins: Has inconsistent role as rookie

Hawkins recorded 35 tackles (24 solo) and one defensed pass over 17 contests in 2023. After the Giants took him in the sixth round of the 2023 draft, Hawkins made a good impression in training camp and began the campaign as the team's slot corner. However, he struggled through three games and was then replaced by sophomore Cor'Dale Flott. Hawkins got a few more opportunities to show off his skills during the campaign, including in Week 7 and Week 11 with Adoree' Jackson out of commission, but he ended the season getting no defensive snaps in four of New York's final six games. The Old Dominion product will likely get a chance to continue to grow next year, but he'd have to take a step forward to move beyond a depth role.

  • Giants' Tre Hawkins: Getting expanded role

Hawkins is expected to start at cornerback in place of Adoree' Jackson (concussion) on Sunday against the Commanders, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Hawkins started his rookie campaign as the Giants' nickel corner, but he lost that job after three games and saw his workload reduced. Now, the Old Dominion product will get another chance in an expanded role against Washington.

  • Giants' Tre Hawkins: Selected by G-Men

The Giants selected Hawkins in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 209th overall. Hawkins began his collegiate career at a community college in Kansas before finishing his final two years at Old Dominion. He was a starter in those last two seasons, breaking up a combined 16 passes while recording three picks. He's a raw prospect given his lack of experience with high-level competition, but he'll have the chance to make the Giants' roster with a role on special teams.
