DJ Uiagalelei: Signs with Bolts' practice squad
The Chargers signed Uiagalelei to the practice squad Monday.
The Chargers waived Uiagalelei during Sunday's cutdown day. The quarterback cleared waivers and has shown enough potential in training camp to once again be invited to the team's practice squad, similar to his rookie year. Uiagalelei participated in all three preseason contests, completing 24 of his 42 pass attempts for 341 yards and two touchdowns.

DJ Uiagalelei: Waived by Chargers
Uiagalelei was waived by the Chargers on Sunday, Tom Pelissero of Netflix reports.
Despite a relatively productive collegiate career, Uiagalelei went undrafted in 2025 before spending time on the Chargers' practice squad as a rookie. He most recently appeared in three preseason games in 2026, throwing for 341 yards and two touchdowns while completing just 57.1 percent of his passing attempts. If Uiagalelei clears waivers, he could be brought back to the practice squad.

Chargers' DJ Uiagalelei: Set to spend offseason with Bolts
Uiagalelei signed a reserve/future contract with the Chargers on Tuesday.
Uiagalelei spent the entire 2025 season on the Chargers' practice squad after failing to make the active roster at the end of training camp. He was elevated for the Chargers' Week 18 clash against the Broncos and served as Trey Lance's backup, though the former did not see the field. Uiagalelei will be a part of the Chargers' 90-man roster in the offseason, allowing him to participate in OTAs and minicamp.

DJ Uiagalelei: Returns to Bolts' practice squad
Uiagalelei reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Uiagalelei spent the entire 2025 season on the Chargers' practice squad. He was elevated to the active roster for the first time Saturday and served as the team's backup quarterback behind Trey Lance for Sunday's 19-3 loss to the Broncos, though the former didn't end up playing a single snap. Uiagalelei is unlikely to see playoff action unless both Justin Herbert and Lance were to miss time.

Chargers' DJ Uiagalelei: Backup for Week 18
The Chargers elevated Uiagalelei from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's game against the Broncos.
With Justin Herbert (left hand/rest) set to sit for Week 18, Uiagalelei will get his first elevation of the season to back up starting quarterback Trey Lance. If Lance must exit the contest for any reason, Uiagalelei will see his first NFL regular-season reps in Sunday's game.

DJ Uiagalelei: Joining Bolts' practice squad
The Chargers signed Uiagalelei to their practice squad Wednesday.
The undrafted rookie free agent wasn't able to box out Trey Lance for a spot on the Chargers' final 53-man roster for 2025, but he'll continue to contribute to the team as a member of the practice squad. It would probably take an injury to either Lance or starter Justin Herbert for Uiagalelei to be considered as a candidate to get called up to the active roster.

DJ Uiagalelei: Fails to make 53-man roster
The Chargers are waiving Uiagalelei on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Uiagalelei signed with the team in April shortly after going undrafted out of Florida State. With all of Justin Herbert, Taylor Heinicke and Trey Lance entrenched above him on the depth chart, he seems a candidate to resurface on the practice squad if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

DJ Uiagalelei: Intends to sign with Chargers
Uiagalelei is slated to sign with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.
Uiagalelei finished his five-year college career in Florida State in 2024 after transferring from Clemson. He completed 53.8 percent of his passes for 1,065 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions in five games for the Seminoles before suffering a season-ending injury to his right hand. Uiagalelei will have the opportunity to compete against Taylor Heinicke and Trey Lance for the Chargers' backup quarterback role behind Justin Herbert during OTAs and training camp.
