Ahmed signed a contract with the Commanders on Tuesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Ahmed made one NFL appearance with the Packers in 2022 and was last with Birmingham of the UFL, where he made 10 of his 13 attempted field goals. He is currently the one kicker on the Commanders roster after the team released Brandon McManus on Sunday.

Ahmed competed for a roster spot with Green Bay this preseason before getting waived as part of the team's final cuts. Ahmed then signed up with the team's practice squad ahead of the regular season, and he was elevated for two games to handle kickoffs in place of aging starting kicker Mason Crosby. However, Ahmed suffered a groin injury during his second elevation for the Week 17 win over Minnesota, leaving him inactive for the season-ending loss to Detroit the following game. Ahmed will now look to log the first field-goal attempt of his career during the 2023 regular season.

Ahmed was elevated from the practice squad for the second time this season ahead of Sunday's blowout win over Minnesota. Ahmed joined the Packers after they placed Gabe Brkic (hamstring) on injured reserve, and the Nevada product operated as the team's starting kicker during the final two preseason games. He made all three of his field-goal attempts and all three of his extra-point tries. However, he finds himself among a wave of cuts ahead of Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline. Ahmed's release also suggests that Mason Crosby (knee) will be be activated off the PUP list and play in Week 1.

Ahmed signed a contract with the Packers on Sunday, Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated reports.
Mason Crosby (knee) remains sidelined following surgery, and Gabe Brkic (hamstring) has struggled throughout training camp, including an ugly miss during the preseason opener, so Ahmed has a good shot at sticking around Green Bay if he can provide the Packers with some consistency in the kicking department. However, the Nevada product is known for his big leg, rather than his consistency. The 27-year-old connected on a league-record 61-yard field goal while playing for the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL this season, but overall, he made just 14-of-22 field-goal attempts and 7-of-10 extra-point tries. If healthy, Crosby is still expected to be the starter Week 1, but Ahmed will get a shot at competing for the backup job during the remainder of training camp.
