  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Heads to IR

The Colts placed Shrader (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday, Amanda Foster of the Colts' official site reports. His move to IR opens up room on the 53-man roster for Michael Badgley, whom the Colts signed to step in as their new kicker in place of Shrader, who will miss the rest of the season after suffering ACL and MCL tears to his right knee in Sunday's 40-6 win over the Raiders. The Notre Dame product had gotten off to an excellent start to the season, converting 13 of 14 field-goal attempts and 14 of 14 extra-point tries en route to an NFL-leading 53 points through the first five weeks. Shrader is under contract through 2026 and should have the inside track on the kicking job heading into next season if he's able to bounce back well from knee surgery.

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Diagnosed with torn ACL and MCL

Coach Shane Steichen confirmed Monday that Shrader will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee in Sunday's win over the Raiders, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports. It's a tough blow for Shrader, who had finally been making his way in the NFL as a consistent kicker after winning the Colts' job this past summer. The Colts now will need to look outside the organization for a new kicker since they don't currently employ one on the practice squad. Shrader's season ends with him making 13 of 14 field-goal attempts and all 14 extra-point tries.

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Makes every kick Sunday

Shrader hit both of his field goals and both of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Rams. The kicker drilled a 52-yarder in the first quarter and a 38-yarder in the fourth. Shrader has now made 13 of 14 field goals and all 12 extra-point tries in 2025. The Colts host the struggling Raiders next Sunday, which should give Shrader plenty of scoring opportunities.

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Kicker to Start

Shrader is off to a great start this season with nine field goals and five PATs, and he has yet to miss a kick. He has scored at least 16 Fantasy points in each outing against Miami and Denver, and he has top-five upside heading into Week 3 at Tennessee. The Titans have allowed four field goals and five PATs on the season against Wil Lutz and Josh Karty, and Shrader is a big reason why Indianapolis is 2-0 to start the year.

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Posts big line in Week 1

Shrader went 4-for-4 on field-goal attempts while making all three of his extra-point tries in the Colts' 33-8 win over the Dolphins on Sunday. Shrader got the scoring started in this one with a four-yard field goal in the first quarter. He also made kicks from 35, 28 and 48 yards, as the Colts rolled the Dolphins. Shrader beat out Maddux Trujillo for Indianapolis' kicking job over the summer.

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Likely clinched placekicking job

Shrader took all the kicks in Saturday's preseason game, which likely means he's won the starting job, the Indianapolis Star reports. He made all four field-goal attempts, including a 56-yarder, and converted his lone extra-point attempt. Maddux Trujillo is expected to get all kicking opportunities in the final preseason game. Shrader has been seen as ahead in the kicking competition throughout training camp.

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Solid performance in preseason loss

Shrader made three of four field-goal attempts in Thursday's preseason loss at Baltimore. He missed a 52-yard attempt. Shrader was seen as having a significant lead over Maddux Trujillo for the placekicking job in training camp, and Thursday's game should help his cause. Trujillo may get more of an opportunity in the next preseason game (he converted his only extra-point attempt in Thursday's game).

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Well ahead of Trujillo

Shrader has opened up a clear lead over Maddux Trujillo in the Colts' kicking competition, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. Shrader has been far more accurate in camp, though he missed a long field-goal attempt in the final two-minute drill of a joint practice with Baltimore on Tuesday. While Trujillo doesn't appear to be a serious contender to win the job over Shrader, Boyd believes the Colts could add another kicker if Shrader struggles in the preseason, which begins for the Colts with a road game in Baltimore on Thursday.

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Will face competition for K job

Shrader and and Maddux Trujillo are in a true competition for the starting placekicker job, special teams coordinator Brian Mason recently told 107.5 FM The Fan in Indianapolis. "Spencer certainly has a little bit of a step up in that. He's already been in the league, already been here, but it is definitely an open competition," said Mason. Shrader inked a two-year deal with the Colts in mid-March after a tumultuous rookie campaign, in which he appeared in four combined games between Indianapolis, Kansas City and the Jets. He converted all five of his field-goal tries and all nine extra-point attempts across those appearances. The Colts will have a new kicker this season after releasing Matt Gay in April. While Shrader's two-year contract likely indicates he's the favorite, it wouldn't be surprising if Trujillo wins the job or if the team acquires another veteran late in training camp for the job. Shrader will need to have a strong preseason as a result.

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Competition departs

Shrader is the only remaining kicker on Indianapolis' roster following the release of Matt Gay on Thursday. Shrader inked a two-year deal with the Colts mid-March after a tumultuous rookie campaign, in which he appeared in four combined games between Indianapolis, Kansas City and the Jets. He converted all five of his field-goal tries and all nine extra-point attempts across those appearances. Gay, meanwhile, went 31 for 37 on field-goal tries across 16 regular-season appearances with the Colts, with all six misses coming from 50-plus yards out. Indianapolis will doubtless bring in further options to compete with Shrader this offseason, but Gay's release provides him a clear path to securing the No. 1 job.

  • Spencer Shrader: Non-tendered by Kansas City

Shrader (hamstring) became an unrestricted free agent Wednesday after the Chiefs did not tender his contract, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports. Shrader played two regular-season games for the Chiefs while filling in for Harrison Butker, who was on injured reserve due to a knee injury. Shrader went 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts and made all six of his extra-point tries with Kansas City, but he himself went on IR in early December due to a hamstring injury. Now that he's an unrestricted free agent, Shrader will have the freedom to sign with a team looking to sign a kicker.

  • Chiefs' Spencer Shrader: Sidelined for practice

Shrader (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday. Shrader has now logged consecutive absences to begin Week 13 prep after injuring his hamstring in a private workout Monday, so he looks to be trending toward missing Friday's matchup against the Raiders. The Notre Dame product has performed well while filling in for the injured Harrison Butker (knee) over the last two games, converting all three of his field-goal attempts and all six of his extra-point tries. Kansas City added Matthew Wright to its practice squad Tuesday, so he's expected to assume the Chiefs' kicking duties if Shrader is held out Week 13.

  • Chiefs' Spencer Shrader: Misses practice with hamstring injury

Shrader didn't practice Tuesday due to a right hamstring injury, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports. According to Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com, Shrader injured his hamstring in a private workout Monday. After being signed off the Jets' practice squad earlier this month, Shrader has handled kicking duties for Kansas City in place of the injured Harrison Butker (knee) for the past two games, converting on all nine of his kicks (six extra-point attempts, three field-goal tries). With the hamstring injury now putting Shrader's status in question for Friday's game against the Raiders, the Chiefs signed Matthew Wright to their practice squad Tuesday. Wright will presumably be elevated from the practice squad and serve as Kansas City's kicker this week if Shrader can't play.

  • Chiefs' Spencer Shrader: To handle kicking duties moving forward

Coach Andy Reid said Shrader will handle all kicking duties for the Chiefs during Harrison Butker's (knee) absence, Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com reports. Butker underwent surgery on the meniscus in his left knee Friday, resulting in his placement on injured reserve. As such, he'll miss at least four games during his recovery, a stretch that will allow Shrader to be the team's regular placekicker. Shrader has appeared in two games as a fill-in for the Colts and Jets this season, connecting on both field-goal attempts and all three point-after tries.

  • Chiefs' Spencer Shrader: Filling in for injured Butker

The Chiefs are expected to sign Shrader off the Jets' practice squad Friday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. With Harrison Butker suffering a left knee injury that will likely result in his placement on injured reserve, Shrader is poised to take over as Kansas City's kicker beginning with Sunday's game against the Bills. An undrafted rookie out of Notre Dame, Shrader has previously made one appearance apiece for the Colts and the Jets this season, converting on field-goal attempts for 45 and 25 yards while going 3-for-3 on extra-point tries. During his five-year collegiate career, Shrader knocked down 68.3 percent of his field goals and had a long of 54 yards.

  • Jets' Spencer Shrader: Handling kicking duties in Week 10

The Jets elevated Shrader from their practice squad to their active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's matchup versus Arizona, John Pullano of the team's official site reports. Shrader's elevation Saturday confirms that he will work as the Jets' placekicker Sunday. After being signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent in May, Shrader served as Indianapolis' kicker Week 1, making all three of his extra-point tries and not attempting any field goals. The Notre Dame product was eventually cut loose once Matt Gay returned to full health for the Colts, then landed with New York's practice squad Oct. 30. He'll now get the opportunity to kick in his second NFL game as a replacement for Riley Patterson, who was cut by New York on Friday after kicking in the team's Week 9 win over Houston. Greg Zuerlein (knee) has been the Jets' kicker most of the season, but he's made just nine of 15 field-goal attempts on the campaign and is slated to miss at least three more games while on injured reserve.

  • Spencer Shrader: Back with Indianapolis

Shrader signed with the Colts' practice squad Monday. Shrader has been cut and re-signed to the Colts' practice squad multiple times this season. It won't be surprising if this continues to happen in future weeks unless Matt Gay suffers another injury, in which case Shrader would likely move to the active roster.

  • Spencer Shrader: Cut from practice squad

The Colts cut Shrader from the practice squad Wednesday. Shrader has bounced on and off Indianapolis' practice squad multiple times this season, and he's now been let go to make room for running back Salvon Ahmed. While filling in for an injured Matt Gay in Week 1, Shrader converted all three of his extra-point tries. It won't be surprising if he resurfaces with the Colts in some capacity again this year.

  • Spencer Shrader: Let go by Colts

Shrader was cut from the Colts' practice squad Wednesday. Shrader re-signed with the practice squad in Indianapolis on Monday after being let go by the team earlier in the year, but he'll now once again look for another opportunity elsewhere. The kicker went 3-for-3 on extra-point attempts in Week 1 against the Texans while filling in for an injured Matt Gay with the Colts.

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Doesn't attempt field goal Sunday

Shrader converted all three of his extra-point tries but did not attempt a field goal in Sunday's 29-27 loss to the Texans. Matt Gay (hernia) was unable to practice leading up to Week 1, which prompted the Colts to promote Shrader from the practice squad. Shrader didn't end up attempting a field goal in Sunday's loss, though he was perfect on all of his extra-point attempts. Shrader will likely be elevated to the active roster for Week 2 against the Packers if Gay is unable to participate in practice.
