Steelers' Joey Porter: Still limited at practice
Porter (undisclosed) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
Just as he was a week prior, Porter was listed on Pittsburgh's injury report Wednesday with a "non-injury/conditioning" designation. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Steelers are planning for Porter to return to action in Week 3. With that said, his conditioning may not be the only important factor -- he has also expressed dissatisfaction with the team about an inability to get a contract extension in place in recent weeks. Pittsburgh's official injury reports Thursday and Friday could provide further insight into Porter's Week 3 status as far as his physical condition is concerned.

Steelers' Joey Porter: Undergoing more tests Wednesday
Porter will be evaluated Wednesday for a back injury he aggravated during practice last week, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports.
Porter has been working through a back issue since the start of training camp but was on track to play against the Patriots in Week 2 before his injury flared up during practice. The 2023 second-rounder is also seeking an extension while in the final year of his rookie contract, but it appears Porter and the Steelers are far apart on negotiations. Wednesday's evaluation should provide more clarity on the defensive back's status for Pittsburgh's Week 3 AFC North showdown against Cincinnati this Sunday.

Porter has already been ruled out ahead of the Steelers' matchup with the Patriots on Sunday due to a back issue. Porter appears to have overcome the back injury that kept him out of last Sunday's 20-13 win over the Falcons. The cornerback is now limited as he continues to acclimate to NFL physicality, but there may be something else holding the 2023 second-rounder back. Porter expressed dissatisfaction in training camp when the Steelers didn't extend him, and the cornerback may still be apprehensive about suiting up for the franchise without guaranteed money in place.

Asante Samuel and Daylen Everette are candidates to start opposite Jamel Dean at outside cornerback for Week 1. Porter's next opportunity to play is Week 2 against the Patriots on Sunday, Sept. 20.

Porter (back) remains listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Falcons but isn't expected to play, Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter of ESPN report.
Porter spent the entirety of training camp and the preseason on the PUP list before being added to the 53-man roster Aug. 30. Though the cornerback was able to take a questionable tag into the weekend after practicing in a limited fashion Wednesday through Friday, his 2026 debut looks as though it may have to wait until Week 2. In addition to working his way back from the back injury, Porter's standing with the Steelers is on shaky ground after the two sides were embroiled in a contract dispute for much of the summer. With Porter and Steelers unable to come to terms on an extension, Rapoport and Schefter relay that the 26-year-old could be a trade candidate.
