  • Colts' Cameron Mitchell: Joins active roster

    The Colts signed Mitchell off their practice squad Saturday. The Northwestern product has appeared in five games with the Browns and Colts this season, recording three total tackles over 103 total snaps (97 on defense, six on special teams). Now that Mitchell is back with Indianapolis' active roster, he's expected to play a depth role in the secondary in the Week 9 matchup against the Steelers.

    Mitchell (knee) is active for Saturday's Week 18 battle against Baltimore. Mitchell dealt with a knee issue at the end of the practice week and was deemed questionable heading into the weekend. Mitchell was designated to return from IR just three days ago, and Cleveland has already decided to activate him to its active roster. Even though the 22-year-old cornerback was activated Saturday, he's still listed as questionable for Sunday's contest. Mitchell has appeared in eight games for the Browns this season, recording nine total tackles and primarily playing on special teams.

    The Browns selected Mitchell in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 142nd overall. Mitchell comes to Cleveland from Northwestern, where he shared a defensive backfield with 2021 first-rounder Greg Newsome. He stepped into a bigger role after Newsome left, starting all 23 games in which he played. At 5-foot-10 and 191 pounds, Mitchell could be an option as a slot corner for Cleveland.
