Titans' Tyjae Spears: Efficient with five touches
Spears rushed four times for 35 yards and brought in his only target for four yards in the Titans' 19-13 preseason win over the 49ers on Thursday.
Spears finished second in rushing yards for the Titans on the night behind Julius Chestnut, and the former showed no signs of the soreness and irritation that caused an early exit from practice on Friday. Spears has a chance to make a case for the top running back job currently held by Tony Pollard, but barring any unforeseen developments or injury, it appears likely the latter will continue relegating Spears to a complementary role to begin the 2026 season.

Titans' Tyjae Spears: Exits practice early Friday
Spears is dealing with some soreness and irritation, which caused him to depart practice early Friday, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.
There's no indication Spears is dealing with anything serious, but he may be held out of practice until his current soreness subsides. The 25-year-old is expected to serve as Tennessee's No. 2 RB this season, and the could be more of a "1B" to starter Tony Pollard than a pure backup. Spears has 1,048 regular-season rushing yards and 873 receiving yards through three NFL campaigns, so he has the potential to make an impact in fantasy as a dual-threat asset.

Titans' Tyjae Spears: Stock trending up
Spears has impressed throughout the Titans' offseason program and strengthened his hold on the No. 2 running back role behind Tony Pollard, Bryce W. Lazenby of SI.com reports.
Spears at one point appeared at risk of falling down the depth chart entering 2026, but new head coach Robert Saleh has consistently praised the 2023 third-round pick this spring. Lazenby reports that Spears is working to improve his pass-catching this offseason and could operate more as a "1B" behind Pollard than a traditional backup. He managed just 72 carries for 283 yards and two touchdowns across 13 games in 2025, though an improved Titans offensive line could benefit both Spears and Pollard this season. Tennessee selected Nicholas Singleton in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, so Spears will face additional competition in training camp.

Titans' Tyjae Spears: Only 27 yards in season finale
Spears rushed the ball three times for 18 yards in Sunday's 41-7 loss to the Jaguars. He added seven receptions (on seven targets) for nine yards.
Tony Pollard dominated rushing attempts for Tennessee, tallying 14 compared to Spears' three. Spears did serve as a favorite checkdown option for fill-in QB Brandon Allen, but that resulted in little production. Injuries and a poor offensive environment derailed Spears' third year as a pro, as his 291 rushing yards across 13 regular-season games were the fewest of his career. He'll presumably enter the final year of his rookie contract in a backup role to Pollard in 2026.

Titans' Tyjae Spears: Disappears from offense again
Spears rushed the ball six times for two yards in Sunday's 34-26 loss to the Saints. He added one reception on two targets for minus-2 yards.
Spears saw a significant uptick in usage in Week 16 and tallied 105 yards from scrimmage. However, he returned to a complementary role in Week 17, earning only seven touches compared to 20 for Tony Pollard. Spears was also shut down as both a rusher and receiver, and he's now been held below five rushing yards in four of his last seven games.
