Breaking Down the AFC West Offseason Checklist

Player Outlook
Nix should be drafted as a low-end starting quarterback in one-quarterback leagues with a late-round pick. In Superflex and two-quarterback leagues, Nix is worth drafting with a pick in the first four rounds. He's been a solid Fantasy quarterback so far in the first two seasons of his career, and the Broncos added Jaylen Waddle this offseason, which is a plus. But we also have to monitor Nix's health after he suffered an ankle injury in the playoffs, and hopefully, he won't suffer any setbacks before Week 1. The addition of Waddle -- along with the presence of Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin, Pat Bryant, Marvin Mims and Evan Engram -- gives Nix the best receiving corps of his career. He has averaged 3,853 yards, 27 touchdowns and 11.5 interceptions in his first two years. And he gives you decent production with his rushing, with at least 356 yards and four rushing touchdowns in each season, which is why we're hopeful his ankle is OK. If healthy, Nix should once again be a quality Fantasy quarterback in 2026 in the majority of leagues.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Takes part in 7-on-7 drills

Nix (ankle) participated in 7-on-7 drills at Wednesday's mandatory minicamp practice, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports. Nix returned to individual work at the start of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, and he's already upgraded to 7-on-7 reps. While Nix, who is recovering back from offseason ankle surgery plus a follow-up procedure, isn't set to take part in 11-on-11 team drills at minicamp, he said Tuesday he could be "full-go right now if they wanted me to," as Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. Head coach Sean Payton said Tuesday that Nix will be fully cleared for the start of training camp in July.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Full go for training camp expected

Nix (ankle), who returned to individual work during Tuesday's mandatory minicamp practice, suggested that he could be "full-go right now if they wanted me to," Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. The Broncos are proceeding cautiously with their franchise QB, who is bouncing back from surgery to repair an ankle injury he suffered during the Broncos' divisional-round playoff win over the Bills in January, as well as a subsequent cleanup procedure to address bone spurs. In terms of his recovery, Nix indicated that his doctors have told him his ankle "looks good as new," while adding that he'll be "just fine" for the upcoming season. Though he'll remain limited in minicamp, coach Sean Payton reiterated Tuesday that Nix is in line to be a full practice participant when the team returns to training camp later this summer.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: On field for minicamp

Nix (ankle) is participating in practice Tuesday at mandatory minicamp, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. Broncos coach Sean Payton also stated Monday that Nix will be cleared for the start of training camp in July, per Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com. The third-year signal-caller is recovering from surgery in late January to address a right ankle fracture, and he's expected to be fully healthy well in advance of the regular season. He also opted to undergo an additional cleanup procedure to address bone spurs, per Stevens. Nix has been productive as both a passer and runner through his first two NFL seasons, and Denver's addition of Jaylen Waddle gives him another significant weapon alongside Courtland Sutton.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: In line to practice next week

Coach Sean Payton said Thursday that Nix (ankle) is expected to practice at mandatory minicamp next week, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. Nix suffered a fracture in his right ankle near the ned of the Broncos' divisional-round win against the Bills and missed the AFC Championship Game loss to the Patriots. After undergoing surgery in late January, he was facing a 12-week recovery, but his on-field work during the offseason program was delayed due to a clean-up procedure that he had in late April. Payton noted Thursday that Nix participated in the walkthrough prior to Thursday's OTA, while adding that he believes Nix will be "completely clean, mobility-wise," once he's back to full health, according to Stevens. The dual threat has combined for 7,706 passing yards and 786 rushing yards in 34 regular-season games since he was selected 12th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Nearing practice return?

Broncos coach Sean Payton said Thursday that Nix (ankle) has been throwing at OTAs and will resume practicing with teammates at June minicamp, Luca Evans of The Denver Post reports. Coming back from a broken ankle suffered during the playoffs, Nix had a minor clean-up procedure in mid-to-late April but still seems to be on track in his recovery. Payton previously mentioned June minicamp as a target date to increase Nix's participation, with the Broncos hoping their starting QB will then be a full participant at the start of training camp in late July. For now, Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger are handling Denver's QB reps while battling for the No. 2 job behind Nix.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: On track for minicamp

Head coach Sean Payton told reporters Saturday that Nix (ankle) will throw during mid-June minicamp and should be at full speed at training camp in July, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports. Nix continues to progress in his recovery from surgery to repair a broken bone in his right ankle that he underwent in late January. The initial recovery timeline was 12 weeks, but the Broncos won't push the third-year quarterback too much during June's minicamp, with Jarrett Stidham expected to take the majority of snaps at that time, though Nix should be a full go for training camp.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Has clean-up procedure on ankle

During his scheduled re-check last week, Nix underwent what Ian Rapoport of NFL Network describes as a successful and anticipated clean-up procedure on his ankle. While Rapoport suggests that the Broncos figure to proceed deliberately with Nix this spring as a result, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com notes that the quarterback is expected to be ready for training camp. Once he's ready to practice fully, Nix will be working with a Denver pass-catching corps that was bolstered by the offseason addition of Jaylen Waddle, who arrived via a trade with the Dolphins last month.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Ahead of schedule, per team owner

Broncos owner Greg Penner said Monday that Nix is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery from right ankle surgery, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports. Penner said in January that he had "zero concern" about Nix's recovery from a bone break in his right ankle, and the team owner echoed those comments Monday. "He's attacked his recovery in the same way that he attacks preparing for games and has just done a terrific job," Penner said of Nix. "He's ahead of schedule. No concerns at all for OTAs and go forward from there." Denver coach Sean Payton stated in February that he expects Broncos OTAs to start June 1, and Nix is trending toward being ready to participate by that date.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: To be back on field in 4-to-6 weeks

Nix said Wednesday that he'll begin training again in about 4-to-6 weeks after undergoing surgery on a "simple bone break" in his right ankle last Tuesday, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports. That's not to say Nix won't require 12 weeks to recover fully, as reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN on Sunday, but the second-year quarterback will resume on-field work about when he normally would in the offseason after his season ended when he suffered the injury near the end of the Broncos' divisional-round overtime win against the Bills. Nix racked up 3,931 passing yards, 356 more yards on the ground and 30 total touchdowns (25 through the air, five rushing) in 17 regular-season games in 2025, so he'll remain a steady option for fantasy purposes in the upcoming campaign once he's healthy.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Facing 12-week recovery

Nix is expected to require 12 weeks to heal after undergoing surgery Tuesday to repair his broken right ankle, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. According to Schefter, Nix will be barred from putting weight on his right ankle for the next four weeks following surgery, and he'll then need around eight weeks to complete the rehab process before he's ready to resume on-field work. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network adds that Nix received good news upon undergoing surgery, as his injured ankle had "limited ligament damage and no joint surface damage." Given the estimated recovery timeline, Nix doesn't look like he'll be available for the start of Denver's offseason program, though he could be fully cleared for OTAs and minicamp in the late spring. With Nix sidelined for the duration of the Broncos' playoff run, Jarrett Stidham will step in as the team's starting quarterback in Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Patriots.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Win clinches first-round bye

Nix completed 14 of 23 pass attempts for 141 yards while taking eight carries for 49 yards in Sunday's 19-3 win over the Chargers. Nix put his athleticism on display against the Chargers by rushing for his most yards (49) in a single game this season. The 25-year-old fell short as a passer when he was held without a touchdown pass for the third time in 17 starts. The surging sophomore leaned on his defense and special teams to secure victory Sunday, a win that earned Denver the AFC's No. 1 seed and a first-round bye for the upcoming playoff schedule. Nix finishes the regular season completing 63 percent of his pass attempts for 3,931 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while producing a 83-356-5 line on the ground. The Broncos will now await the results of the wild-card round before preparing for their opponent in the divisional round on either Jan. 17 or 18.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: QBs to Start

As of Wednesday, we don't know who the Chargers plan to rest on defense in Week 18, but if they are sitting Justin Herbert then other key players will likely also be out to prepare for the playoffs. It's not a slam dunk to trust Nix since he's only scored more than 20 Fantasy points twice in his past seven outings. But we saw this scenario play out last year for Nix in Week 18 against Kansas City when the Chiefs rested starters, and Nix went off for 41.5 Fantasy points. I'm willing to take a chance on Nix in this matchup since the Chargers don't seem intent on trying to win this game.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Throws four touchdowns

Nix completed 23 of 34 passes for 302 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 34-26 win over the Packers. He added seven rushes for 10 yards. Nix topped 300 passing yards in a game for the third time this season, highlighted by five completions of at least 20 yards. Two of those went for touchdowns -- including a 23-yard strike over the middle of the field to Troy Franklin as the third quarter expired that gave the Broncos a lead they wouldn't relinquish. He also tacked on a pair of additional touchdown passes from five and 14 yards away to match his season high. Considering the strength of Green Bay's defense, this was one of Nix's most impressive showings of the season, particularly considering he hadn't accounted for multiple scores since Week 9.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: QBs to Sit

Nix comes into Week 15 against the Packers having scored 18.4 Fantasy points or less in four games in a row, and he hasn't scored multiple touchdowns since Week 9. It will be tough to trust him in one-quarterback leagues against Green Bay, even at home, since the Packers have allowed just one guy to score more than 18.9 Fantasy points in their past six games, including matchups with Jalen Hurts and Caleb Williams over that span. Nix is only worth starting in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues in this game.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Bust Alert (Start/Sit)

The Broncos have allowed more than 21 Fantasy points in their past two games against Marcus Mariota in Week 14 and the combination of Geno Smith and Kenny Pickett in Week 15, but this is still a difficult matchup since Denver is No. 5 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks for the season. We'll see if Love can overcome this defense, and he's hot right now with at least 21.7 Fantasy points in three of his past four games, including two outings on the road at the Giants and Lions. But Love has also struggled in some tough matchups against Philadelphia in Week 10 and Minnesota in Week 12, and he scored 7.8 Fantasy points or less in each of those two games. I'm still starting Love in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues, but I would bench him in one-quarterback leagues in Week 15.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Scores early in win over LV

Nix completed 31 of 38 pass attempts for 212 yards while adding three carries for 15 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-17 win against Las Vegas. Nix was methodical against the Raiders' coverage Sunday, completing over 80 percent of his pass attempts en route to earning his team's 11th victory of the season. The Broncos played an excellent game of ball control, nearly doubling the opposition's 20:57 time of possession. This was exhibited best on Denver's opening drive that ate up just under nine minutes of game clock, which culminated in Nix's fourth rushing touchdown of the season, tying the mark he set last year as a rookie. The Broncos' special teams and running game finished off the Raiders, which helped contribute to the signal-caller's pedestrian individual contribution to fantasy managers' box scores in Week 14. Nix will face a stiffer test next time out when the Broncos host the Packers next Sunday.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Ragged showing in Week 10 win

Nix completed 16 of 28 passes for 150 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions while rushing five times for minus-2 yards in the Broncos' 10-7 win over the Raiders on Thursday night. Nix's final line wasn't aesthetically pleasing by any stretch, but the second-year signal-caller did just enough to help his team to its eighth victory in 10 games. Nix connected with Troy Franklin on a tight-window seven-yard touchdown pass late in the first half to erase an early 7-0 deficit, and his second interception, which could have had disastrous consequences, also came on a pass intended for Franklin that bounced off the receiver's hands at the Broncos' 45-yard line just after the halfway point of the fourth quarter. Daniel Carlson would go on to miss a game-tying field goal on the Raiders' ensuing possession, and Nix subsequently led a 10-play, 47-yard drive that allowed Denver to run out the clock. Nix has just a 4:4 TD:INT over his last three games, and he'll have a tougher matchup on tap on Sunday, Nov. 16 when the Broncos host the Chiefs in a Week 11 divisional showdown.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: QBs to Start

We love Nix whenever he's at home, and he scored a combined 75.6 Fantasy points in his past two games in Denver against the Giants and Cowboys. He's also averaging 28.5 Fantasy points in his past 12 home games going back to last season. Nix scored 22.5 Fantasy points in a tough rough game last week at Houston, and he should stay hot in this game against the Raiders, who have allowed three of the past four opposing quarterbacks to score at least 21.2 Fantasy points. Nix also scored at least 23.4 Fantasy points in two games against the Raiders in 2024, and he has top-five upside in all leagues in this matchup.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Another four-score game Sunday

Nix completed 19 of 29 pass attempts for 247 yards, four touchdowns and one interception while losing one yard on his only carry in Sunday's 44-24 win over the Cowboys. Nix has produced four scores for fantasy managers in consecutive appearances, using his arm for all four trips to the end zone against a depleted Dallas secondary this time around. The sophomore signal-caller leaned on his younger receiving options Sunday, dialing up second-year wideout Troy Franklin in the end zone twice and rookies Pat Bryant and RJ Harvey once each. Nix is proving his standout rookie campaign was no fluke, checking in with 1,803 passing yards and 15 touchdowns to five interceptions near the midpoint of the regular season. The 25-year-old will look to keep his hot streak alive against Houston's stingy defense next Sunday.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Start of the Week

Nix was having a miserable game in Week 7 against the Giants, and Denver entered the fourth quarter down 19-0. The Broncos stormed back to win the game 33-32, and Nix became the first player in NFL history to score two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns in a quarter. He finished with 43.9 Fantasy points, and he should stay hot heading into Week 8 against Dallas. The Cowboys are No. 1 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, and every team this season has scored at least 23.7 Fantasy points against Dallas, including three quarterbacks with at least 32.3 points. Nix has also been awesome at home, and in his past 11 games at Denver going back to last year, he averages 28.2 Fantasy points. I love Nix as a top-five Fantasy quarterback in this matchup for Week 8.
