Detroit signed Pittman off of the Jaguars' practice squad Tuesday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
With the Lions dealing with a mountain of injuries to their defense, they saw fit to bring Pittman aboard to provide depth at linebacker. His fastest path to playing time may be on special teams, where he's already spent the majority of his NFL career.

Pittman spent the previous four seasons with the Lions, seeing the vast majority of his snaps on special teams. The Wayne State product will likely be working to earn a similar role with his new team.

Pittman has mostly played at weak-side linebacker during the Lions' offseason program, Chris Burke of The Athletic reports.
Pittman provides plenty of real-life value on special teams after leading the Detroit unit in snaps in 2021, but he is a total afterthought in IDP circles if he isn't being prepared to possibly fill in at middle linebacker.
