Cardinals' Tyler Allgeier: Likely stuck backing up Love
Allgeier will likely have to settle for a backup role in 2026, as Arizona drafted running back Jeremiyah Love third overall Thursday.
Love is expected to immediately ascend to the top of the depth chart for the Cardinals after racking up 2,497 rushing yards and 35 rushing touchdowns over the past two years at Notre Dame. Allgeier spent the past three years backing up Bijan Robinson in Atlanta, and Arizona's free-agent addition now will have to compete for carries with another top-10 draft pick. The Cardinals also have James Conner and Trey Benson (knee) on the roster, so even reaching last year's total of 157 touches could be tough for Allgeier if Arizona's backfield stays healthy.

Cardinals' Tyler Allgeier: Finds home with Cardinals
Allgeier agreed to terms on a two-year, $12.25 million contract with Arizona on Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Allgeier moves on from Atlanta after four seasons to join a Cardinals backfield that also houses veteran James Conner (foot) and 2024 third-round pick Trey Benson (knee), providing new head coach Mike LaFleur with the resources to deploy what may be a run-heavy offense in the wake of the looming departure of quarterback Kyler Murray (foot). Given that both Conner and Benson are coming off injury-riddled 2025 campaigns and Allgeier has suited up for all 17 regular-season games in three consecutive years, he could be the most suited to handle a larger share of the carries in Arizona, should LaFleur want to deploy something close to an every-down No. 1 backfield option reminiscent of his time as the Rams' offensive coordinator. Full clarity regarding the Cardinals' backfield rotation may not arrive until later in the offseason, however.

Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Career-high eight TDs in 2025
Allgeier rushed seven times for 16 yards and caught one of two targets for three yards in Sunday's win over New Orleans.
After rushing 137 times for 644 yards and three touchdowns across 17 appearances last season, Allgeier handed essentially the same amount of carries in 2025, finishing with a 143-514-8 rushing line. He added 14 catches for 96 scoreless yards. Allgeier's eight touchdowns marked a new career high for the 25-year-old, who handled a sizable chunk of the goal-line work for Atlanta. After spending four seasons with the Falcons, Allgeier is scheduled to be a free agent in the offseason. There's a chance he could land a starting job elsewhere as an early-down back.

Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Stymied on ground in win
Allgeier rushed 10 times for 23 yards in the Falcons' 27-24 win over the Rams on Monday night.
The reserve back saw backfield mate Bijan Robinson tear through the Rams for 195 yards on 22 carries, but Allgeier had nowhere near the same amount of success finding running room. Allgeier's 2.3 yards per carry was his second-lowest figure of the season, yet the fourth-year pro could have a good opportunity to bounce back in a Week 18 regular-season finale against a vulnerable Saints run defense.
