Commanders' Chig Okonkwo: Not playing Friday
Okonkwo isn't slated to suit up for Friday's preseason contest against the Dolphins.
After spending the first four campaigns of his career with the Titans, Okonkwo signed a three-year, $27 million contract to join the Commanders this offseason. He's averaged a 48.5-504.3-2 line on 68 targets per 17 regular-season games to date, but more consistent QB play while working with Jayden Daniels in Washington makes Okonkwo a candidate to increase those numbers in 2026.

Commanders' Chig Okonkwo: Building chemistry with Daniels
Ahead of training camp, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site relays that Okonkwo (who signed a three-year deal with the team in March) and QB Jayden Daniels have already developed a strong connection through their work during OTAs and minicamp.
With Zach Ertz (knee), who drew 72 targets in 13 regular-season contests in 2025, no longer in the mix, Okonkwo tops a Washington TE depth chart that also includes returnees John Bates and Ben Sinnott, a duo that combined for 29 targets last season. During his fourth and final campaign with the Titans, Okonkwo put up a 56/560/6 receiving line on 79 targets across 17 regular-season outings. Given that the 2022 fourth-rounder has already developed chemistry with a signal-caller who Selby notes often likes to get tight ends involved in the offense, Okonkwo is a candidate to see an uptick in production in his new locale in 2026. It's a context in which the tight feels like he "can finally just unleash," while operating as one of Daniels' key pass-catching options along with top WR Terry McLaurin.

Commanders' Chig Okonkwo: Set to join Commanders
Okonkwo has agreed to terms on a three-year contract with Washington, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Okonkwo is moving on from Tennessee after four seasons to become the new top pass-catching TE for quarterback Jayden Daniels, joining a positional room that also includes Ben Sinnott and John Bates (who combined for 22 catches in 2025). Now entering his age-27 season, Okonkwo has tallied over 400 receiving yards in four consecutive years and brings a respectable production floor to the Commanders. For fantasy purposes, Okonkwo will be a sleeper breakout candidate at the tight end position in the event that Daniels is the quarterback able to unlock the untapped potential promised by Okonkwo's YAC abilities and speed (4.52 40).

Titans' Chig Okonkwo: Ends 2025 quietly
Okonkwo recorded two receptions (on five targets) for two yards in Sunday's 41-7 loss to the Jaguars.
Okonkwo had emerged as a favorite target of Cam Ward (shoulder) in recent weeks, logging at least six targets in each of the last three games while also scoring two touchdowns in that span. However, the entire offense suffered once Brandon Allen was forced into action, leaving Okonkwo with a disappointing line to end the regular season. Okonkwo still managed to log career highs in receptions (56), yards (560) and targets (79) across 17 regular-season games. He's set to hit free agency this offseason and is likely to join a new offense after Gunnar Helm established himself as an effective pass catcher at tight end in his rookie year.

Titans' Chig Okonkwo: Scores long TD in loss
Okonkwo secured three of seven targets for 55 yards and a touchdown in the Titans' 34-26 loss to the Saints on Sunday.
Okonkwo co-led the Titans in receiving yards and targets during the loss, with the majority of his production coming on a nifty 43-yard catch-and-run touchdown in the second quarter. The athletic tight end has recorded both his TD grabs in the last two games, and he has a useful 9-99-2 line on 15 targets over his last two games heading into the Week 18 finale on the road against the Jaguars.

Titans' Chig Okonkwo: Hauls in first TD of 2025
Okonkwo caught six of eight targets for 44 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 26-9 win over Kansas City.
The fourth-year tight end tied his season high in receptions and set a new season high in targets while getting into the end zone for the first time in 2025, as he connected with Cam Ward on a seven-yard score in the second quarter. Okonkwo appeared to have fallen behind rookie Gunnar Helm on the depth chart a few weeks ago, but the two have seen roughly equal usage of late, with Okonkwo's 12-97-1 line on 16 targets over the last three games nosing ahead of Helm's 7-66-1 line on nine targets. Okonkwo will look to build on this performance in Week 17 against the Saints.

Titans' Chig Okonkwo: Leads team in targets
Okonkwo recorded four receptions on six targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 37-24 loss to the 49ers.
Okonkwo served as a reliable target for Cam Ward in the short areas of the field, and he paced the team with his six targets. He managed a few solid gains with his ability to pick up yards after the catch, the longest of which went for 17 yards. While Gunnar Helm is emerging as a key contributor in the Tennessee offense, Okonkwo still has at least four targets in three of his last four games.
