  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Ready to go for Week 4

McKee (thumb) was a full participant at practice Friday, Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia reports. McKee will be back in his role as the primary reserve option at quarterback behind Jalen Hurts in Week 4. McKee had served as the team's emergency third QB each of the last two weeks while nursing a thumb injury.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Limited again to open Week 4

McKee (thumb) participated in practice in a limited capacity Wednesday. McKee has now been limited in each of the Eagles' past three practice sessions dating back to last week. He's yet to be active on gameday this season but has served as the emergency third QB each of the past two weeks. McKee seems to be trending in the right direction and could be active as Jalen Hurts' backup as soon as this Sunday versus Tampa Bay.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Working as emergency QB in Week 3

McKee (thumb) is inactive but is serving as the Eagles' emergency third quarterback Sunday against the Rams, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. McKee continues to work his way back from surgery on a fractured right thumb and is serving as Philly's emergency third QB for the second straight week. Until he's advanced enough in his recovery, Sam Howell will likely continue to get the gameday nod as the backup quarterback behind Jalen Hurts.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Limited at practice

McKee (thumb) was a limited participant at practice Thursday. McKee was limited for the second day in a row as he continues to recover from a fractured right thumb. If McKee can't go in Week 3, Sam Howell would operate as the top backup option behind Jalen Hurts at quarterback against the Rams.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Limited again Wednesday

McKee (thumb) was limited in practice Wednesday. McKee was limited in practice last week but was inactive as the Eagles' QB3 behind Jalen Hurts and Sam Howell in last Sunday's win over the Chiefs. Once healthy, McKee has a chance to usurp Howell for QB2 duties.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Emergency QB for Week 2

McKee (thumb) is inactive but will serve as the Eagles' emergency third-string quarterback against the Chiefs on Sunday. McKee is still recovering from a fractured right thumb that he suffered during training camp. He will be the Eagles' third-string quarterback for Sunday's Super Bowl LIX rematch, which means he'll only see the field if both Jalen Hurts and Sam Howell were to leave the game due to injury, illness or ejection.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Listed as questionable

McKee (thumb) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports. McKee got in a limited practice Friday, giving him a chance to back up Jalen Hurts versus Kansas City. If McKee is unable to suit up, Sam Howell will once again handle QB2 duties for the Eagles.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Ruled out for Week 1

McKee (thumb) did not practice Wednesday and is ruled out for Thursday's regular-season opener against the Cowboys. McKee won't be available at home versus Dallas in Week 1, leaving Sam Howell in position to serve as the top backup to quarterback Jalen Hurts. The 2023 sixth-round pick is working his way back from a thumb fracture on his right throwing hand suffered Aug. 24. His next chance to suit up will come Week 2 on the road at Kansas City on Sunday, Sept. 14.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Diagnosed with fractured thumb

McKee is dealing with a fractured thumb and may not be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Though McKee's injury brings his availability for the beginning of the regular season into question, Rapoport notes that the issue isn't major, adding that the fracture is to "just the top of the thumb." Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports that the quarterback suffered the injury during practice and agrees that it's not expected to be a long-term issue. The Eagles traded for Sam Howell in a deal with Minnesota on Sunday, giving them insurance in case McKee does indeed to need to sit out the team's opener Thursday, Sept. 4 against Dallas.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Status for Week 1 up in the air

Head coach Nick Sirianni told reporters Friday that McKee is "working to get back" from a finger injury that caused him to miss the Eagles' last two preseason games, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports. With McKee dealing with a finger injury and Jalen Hurts resting, Kyle McCord has handled most of the quarterback snaps over the Eagles' last two preseason games. McKee played well in Philadelphia's preseason opener against Cincinnati, and he is entrenched as the QB2 behind Hurts heading into the regular season. Either McCord or Dorian Thompson-Robinson would step up as the backup for Week 1 against the Cowboys on Thursday, Sept. 4 if McKee is not cleared to play.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Makes two appearances in 2024

McKee completed 30 of 45 pass attempts (67 percent) for 323 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions across two regular-season appearances with the Eagles in 2024. He also rushed five times for minus-one yards. McKee played 34 percent of offensive snaps Week 17, with Jalen Hurts in the concussion protocol and backup Kenny Pickett having been forced out early due to a ribs injury, and he then started the team's Week 18 regular-season finale against New York. Having shown out well in limited action, McKee seems a solid candidate to reprise his No. 3 quarterback role behind Hurts and Pickett during the 2025 season. He has two years remaining on his deal with Philadelphia.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Serving as emergency option

McKee (coach's decision) is inactive and serving as the Eagles' emergency third quarterback in Sunday's game against the Chiefs. McKee will handle his typical role as Philadelphia's emergency third quarterback for the Super Bowl. Although technically inactive, he will be suited up for the game. To be eligible to play, both Jalen Hurts and Kenny Pickett would need to become unable to play due to injury, illness or ejection.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Returns to No. 3 role

McKee was inactive as the Eagles' emergency No. 3 quarterback for Sunday's 22-10 wild-card win over the Packers. Though Jalen Hurts cleared concussion protocol and returned to the starting role after missing the final two games of the regular season, McKee looked as though he might have made a case to replace Kenny Pickett as the Eagles' No. 2 signal-caller based on his performance in Weeks 17 and 18. Pickett started and played the majority of the Eagles' 41-7 win over the Cowboys in Week 17, but he left that game early with a rib injury to pave the way for McKee to take his first NFL snaps. McKee completed three of four attempts for 54 yards and two touchdowns in relief, then started the Week 18 win over the Giants while both Hurts and Pickett were sidelined and completed 27 of 41 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Despite McKee's strong showing the previous two games, the Eagles ultimately elected to keep him in the No. 3 role for the playoff opener with Pickett displaying enough progress in his recovery from the injury in practice this past week to suit up as Hurts' top backup.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Goes distance in Week 18 win

McKee completed 27 of 41 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 20-13 win over the Giants. He added one yard on three carries. Kenny Pickett was cleared for action after missing practice all week due to a rib issue, but he didn't see a snap as McKee played the whole game in his first NFL start. Despite not having top stars like Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith at his disposal as the Eagles rested players ahead of the postseason, McKee still put together an impressive effort, hitting Ainias Smith for a 15-yard TD in the first quarter and E.J. Jenkins for a seven-yard score in the fourth. McKee will return to the bench when Philly begins its playoff run next weekend with a home game against the Packers, but the 2023 sixth-round pick may have shown enough late this season to give the team confidence that he can be the No. 2 QB behind Jalen Hurts (concussion) in 2025.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Next man up after Hurts, Pickett

McKee is currently the Eagles' healthiest quarterback after starter Jalen Hurts (concussion) and top backup Kenny Pickett (ribs) suffered injuries in Sunday's 36-33 loss to the Commanders. "Tanner has done a good job in scout team and developmental periods, and so, again, Tanner gives us a lot of confidence," head coach Nick Sirianni said during his press conference Monday, when asked about his comfort with McKee in the event he's needed to play in Week 17 against the Cowboys. A 2023 sixth-round pick, McKee is in his second season in the Philadelphia organization but is still waiting to make his NFL debut. He's been inactive all season as the emergency No. 3 quarterback, but he could move up one or two rungs pending the statuses of Hurts and Pickett. Per Zach Berman of The Athletic, Hurts remains in the NFL's five-step concussion protocol, while the team didn't have an update on Pickett, who underwent an X-ray on his ribs after taking a hard hit in the fourth quarter Sunday. McKee last saw competition action in the preseason, when he completed 34 of 56 pass attempts (60.7 percent) for 294 yards (5.3 YPA), zero touchdowns and one interception over three games.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Emergency QB for Week 16

McKee (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Commanders. McKee will be the Eagles' third-string emergency quarterback for Sunday's NFC East clash. McKee will only see the field if starter Jalen Hurts and backup Kenny Pickett are both taken out of the game due to injury, illness or ejection.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Remains emergency third QB

McKee (coach's decision) is listed as inactive Sunday in Baltimore, but he's available as the Eagles' emergency third quarterback. As has been the case all season, McKee will only see game action if both Jalen Hurts and Kenny Pickett depart due to injuries. The 2023 sixth-round pick has yet to throw a pass in a regular-season NFL contest.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Serving as emergency QB

McKee (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Saints, but he will be available as the team's emergency third quarterback. McKee will only see the field Sunday should both Jalen Hurts and Kenny Pickett get hurt. McKee lost out to Pickett for the backup quarterback job during training camp.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Emergency QB versus Falcons

McKee is not active for Monday's matchup with the Falcons due to a coach's decision, but he will be available as the team's emergency third quarterback if needed. Kenny Pickett is slated to back up Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia's home opener, but McKee will be available if both happen to get hurt. The 2023 sixth-round pick was unable to earn the backup role during training camp. He did not see the field in the Eagles' season-opening victory over the Packers.

  • Eagles' Tanner McKee: Working as emergency QB on Monday

McKee (coach's decision) is inactive and serving as the Eagles' emergency third quarterback in Monday's wild-card game against Tampa Bay. McKee didn't see any game action during the regular season, but he consistently handled emergency QB duties. That will be the case again Monday against Tampa Bay. Jalen Hurts will serve as Philadelphia's lead signal-caller, with Marcus Mariota backing him up.
