Lions' Cade Mays: Placed on IR, designated to return
Mays (wrist) was placed on injured reserve by the Lions on Sunday with a designation to return, Tom Pelissero of Netflix reports.
Mays suffered a fractured wrist during the preseason, and he will now be forced to miss at least four games to open the regular season. The 27-year-old was expected to operate as the team's starting center this year, so in his absence, Seth McLaughlin will get a chance to handle that role to open 2026.

Lions' Cade Mays: Will miss regular-season time
Mays will miss a significant portion of the 2026 season with a fractured wrist, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Coach Dan Campbell called the injury "significant," and it appears Mays won't be able to return before mid-season at the earliest. Former Lions center Frank Ragnow retired after the 2024 season, and Mays was set to take over the starting role for the foreseeable future after signing a three-year, $25 million contract with Detroit this offseason. In the wake of Mays' injury, Seth McLaughlin is set to open the regular season as the Lions' starting center.

Lions' Cade Mays: Sidelined for 'extended period'
Mays sustained a wrist injury during Sunday's practice and will miss "a significant period," Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
It's unclear exactly how long Mays will be sidelined, but his recovery timeline will extend into the regular season. As such, the Lions will be down their top center -- who signed a three-year, $25 million contract with the club in March -- when the games that count get underway.
