Cardinals' Jon Gaines: Past knee injury
Gaines (knee) was absent from the Cardinals' injury report Wednesday ahead of Sunday's Week 1 matchup with the Bills.
Gaines missed all of 2023 with a knee injury, but it appears he's returned just in time for the Cardinals' regular-season opener Sunday. The 2023 fourth-round pick out of UCLA is expected to open Arizona's campaign as the backup center now that he's returned to full health.

Cardinals' Jon Gaines: Avoids PUP list before camp
Gaines (knee) avoided being placed on the Cardinals' active/PUP list prior to training camp Thursday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Gaines missed the 2023 campaign while recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in August, but he'll enter camp as an active participant. Head coach Jonathan Gannon said Wednesday that the offensive lineman will be limited during the early days of camp, but that he rehabbed "every day" during the offseason, which appears to have paid off.

Cardinals' Jon Gaines: Selected by Arizona
The Cardinals selected Gaines in the fourth round of the NFL Draft, 122nd overall.
Gaines played four seasons with UCLA and started 25 games at right guard, though he also displayed some versatility by serving as the team's center intermittently. He tested as an excellent athlete across the board at the combine (5.01 40-yard dash at 303 pounds) and also has the intelligence to succeed as a pro. Gaines' primary downfall for the time being is his lack of consistency, but with advanced coaching he could continue to develop.
