DT Sheffield: Waived/injured by New York
The Jets waived/injured Sheffield (undisclosed) on Wednesday, Eric Allen of the team's official site reports.
Sheffield signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in early May. The 25-year-old wide receiver out of Rutgers made it through most of training camp before sustaining an unknown injury. Sheffield will now be placed on waivers, and if he clears he will revert to the Jets' injured reserve list and spend the entirety of the 2026 regular season on IR unless he is waived with an injury settlement.

Jets' DT Sheffield: Headed to New York
The Jets signed Sheffield as an undrafted free agent Friday, Jack Bell and John Pullano of the team's official site report.
Sheffield played a season apiece at Washington State and North Texas before ending his college career at Rutgers. The wide receiver totaled 44 receptions for 557 yards and five touchdowns over 12 games in 2025. Sheffield's speed and suddenness mean that if he can produce at training camp, he may have a chance to see a few targets a year as a field-stretching option.
