Jets' Omar Cooper: To be placed on injured reserve
The Jets are expected to place Cooper (ankle) on injured reserve, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Cooper suffered a sprained ankle early on in his pro debut this past Sunday at Tennessee that left him week-to-week. He predictably didn't practice during Week 2 prep and then was ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Packers. Once he's officially on injured reserve, Cooper will need to miss at least the next four games, at which point New York will be able to designate him for return from IR. In the meantime, Isaiah Williams figures to take on a bigger role behind Garrett Williams and Adonai Mitchell.

Jets' Omar Cooper: Officially on injured reserve
The Jets placed Cooper (ankle) on injured reserve Saturday, Amanda Vogt of the team's official site reports.
Cooper thus will miss at least the next four games after he suffered a sprained ankle in his pro debut this past Sunday in Tennessee. His next chance for game action will be a Week 6 road matchup with the Patriots on Sunday, Oct. 18, and in the meantime, the Jets will operate with a receiving corps composed of Garrett Wilson, Adonai Mitchell, Isaiah Williams and Arian Smith.

Cooper (ankle) will not play Sunday against the Packers, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
It was reported earlier this week that Cooper was week-to-week with the ankle injury he sustained in Week 1, so it comes as little surprise that he will sit out his team's second game of the season. Isaiah Williams is the favorite to pick up extra snaps in Cooper's absence.

Cooper's inability to practice is no surprise considering he's expected to miss multiple weeks due to an ankle sprain he sustained in the Jets' Week 1 win over the Titans. Cooper is listed as a backup wide receiver on the Jets' unofficial depth chart.
Cooper served as one of QB Fernando Mendoza's top targets at Indiana last season, finishing with a 69-937-13 line in 16 games. After turning in a 4.42 40 time at the NFL Combine, his prospect profile was enough for the Jets to use the 30th overall pick on him in the 2026 NFL Draft. Joining a receiving corps already boasting Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell, Cooper wasn't destined for more than the No. 3 WR role in the offense, but he worked behind even Isaiah Williams in three-wide sets during training camp, and his current depth-chart slotting indicates he still has work to do to earn significant reps in New York's passing game.

Cooper's lone catch came on a pass from fellow rookie Cade Klubnik in the two-minute drill to end the first half, with the Jets' second-string offense in the game.
