Jaguars' Tanner Koziol: Catchless in preseason debut
Koziol didn't catch either of his two targets Saturday in a 24-20 preseason win against the Saints.
Neither of Koziol's targets were particularly well thrown, so his lack of catches shouldn't be a major concern. The rookie fifth-round pick will look to make a louder impact, however, in Jacksonville's remaining preseason contests. Brenton Strange is slated to be the Jaguars' top tight end during the upcoming season, with Koziol and Nate Boerkircher jockeying for the No. 2 and No. 3 slots.

Jaguars' Tanner Koziol: Building early momentum
Koziol has been a standout during the early portion of the Jaguars' offseason program, John Shipley of SI.com reports.
Koziol, a rookie fifth-round pick, has generated more buzz during spring practices than second-rounder Nate Boerkircher. Tight ends coach Richard Angulo described Koziol as being "a little bit more polished as a pass catcher" and mentioned the rookie's "ball skills and his size and range," at 6-foot-6, 247 pounds. Brenton Strange remains entrenched as Jacksonville's No. 1 tight end, and Boerkircher's blocking ability may give him an edge for the No. 2 role, but Koziol is making an early case for opportunities in Liam Coen's offense, which -- per Garry Smits of the Jacksonville Florida Times-Union -- is expected to feature more multi-TE looks in 2026.

Jaguars' Tanner Koziol: Picked by Jacksonville
The Jaguars selected Koziol in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 164th overall.
Koziol fell almost to the sixth round over concerns that he just doesn't have what it takes to be a blocker at the NFL level. At 6-foot-7, 247 pounds Koziol is big in general, but his height (93rd percentile, according to Mockdraftable) rapidly outpaces his weight (27th percentile). There's also the suspicion that Koziol just doesn't have tight-end temperament -- he truly might be a gigantic wide receiver. Finally, the good news: as a pass catcher Koziol clearly has NFL ability. Koziol drew targets at a rapid frequency at both Ball State and Houston, proving beyond any doubt that he will draw targets at a standout per-snap basis. The concern is that Koziol's lack of blocking ability and/or intent could result in a very low snap count, even if he makes the team. Long shot as he might be, Koziol is still a preferable fantasy target to Jaguars second-round pick Nate Boerkircher.
