Jets' Blake Grupe: Set to be starting kicker with Jets
Grupe has a clearer path to the Jets' kicking job after the team released Jason Sanders on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
After being claimed off waivers earlier Monday, Grupe now is the lone kicker on the Jets' roster after the team elected to let Sanders go. Grupe appears to be on track to serve as the team's starting kicker this season after he went 29-for-37 on field-goal attempts while making all 25 of his extra-point tries over 16 regular-season contests with the Saints and Colts last year.

Blake Grupe: Cut loose by Indianapolis
Grupe was waived by the Colts on Sunday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Grupe was in a competition with Spencer Shrader for the starting kicker role in Indianapolis this season, and he appears to have come up short. Grupe made two of four field-goal attempts during the preseason, while Shrader went a perfect 4-for-4 on field-goal tries. Grupe split his time between the Saints and Colts in 2025, going 29-for-37 on field-goal attempts, but he converted only five of 11 tries from 40-plus yards. He will now have to wait for his next chance to prove himself, and it's possible that he'll stick around as a member of the practice squad with Indianapolis.

Jets' Blake Grupe: Latches on with NYJ

Grupe was cut loose by the Colts on Sunday after losing the kicking battle to Spencer Shrader during the preseason. Colts' Blake Grupe: Misses short FG attempt in preseason loss
Grupe missed his only field-goal attempt in Saturday's 34-6 preseason loss to the Falcons.
Grupe missed a 36-yard attempt after watching Spencer Shrader convert 48-yard and 53-yard field goals earlier in the game. Grupe had previously been viewed as the favorite in the Colts' kicker competition, but his miss Saturday may have opened the door for Shrader to close the gap. Next Saturday's preseason finale against the Lions will be a pivotal game for both kickers.

Colts' Blake Grupe: Favorite to win kicking job
Grupe is 12-for-12 on field-goal tries throughout training camp as of Wednesday, Noah Compton of Sports Illustrated reports.
Fellow contender Spencer Shrader has already demonstrated his competence as a kicker with Indianapolis -- he converted on 13 of his 14 field-goal attempts over five games with the team last season. It's hard to compete with perfection though, and Grupe has apparently yet to miss a live kick during camp. Special teams coach Brian Mason hinted that both would kick during preseason play, so there's likely still room for a change in the pecking order in advance of Week 1 of the regular season.

Colts' Blake Grupe: Outkicks Shrader on Friday
Grupe made all six of his field-goal attempts Friday while Spencer Shrader went 5-for-6, Abby Halpin of the Colts' official site reports.
Grupe and Shrader are battling it out in a training camp competition to determine the Colts' kicker for the upcoming season. "I think it'll be a really good competition," special-teams coordinator Brian Mason said Thursday. "We're going to try to get those guys the exact same number of kicks as similar as we possibly can." Grupe had the slight edge Friday with his perfect performance.

Grupe is set to compete against Spencer Shrader (knee) for the Colts' kicking job, Paul Bretl of USA Today reports.
Grupe spent the first two-plus years of his NFL career with the Saints but was released in late November after connecting on only 18 of 26 field goals (69.2 percent) across 11 regular-season games in 2025. He got a new opportunity with the Colts and rebounded by making all 11 of his field-goal tries over the final five regular-season games. Even with Shrader working his way back from a torn ACL that he sustained in early October, Grupe will need to have a strong training camp and preseason to hang onto his kicking gig.

Grupe agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $1.4 million with the Colts on Sunday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Grupe converted all 11 of his field-goal attempts and 10 PAT tries across the Colts' final five regular-season games last year. Indianapolis signed the 27-year-old from its practice squad after moving on from Michael Badgley in December. Grupe converted all three of his field-goal attempts and all three of his extra-point tries during Sunday's 38-30 loss to Houston.
Grupe was perfect across his five-regular season appearances with Indianapolis, converting all 11 of his field-goal attempts and all 10 of his extra-point tries. He struggled more across his 11 regular-season appearances with the Saints, however, going 18-of-26 on field-goal attempts while nailing all 15 of his PATs in those games. He will be an exclusive rights free agent this offseason, meaning the Colts will have the option to extend Grupe a one-year tender that would prevent him from negotiating with other teams.

Grupe was elevated to make his Colts debut during the team's Week 14 loss to the Jaguars, in which he converted both of his field-goal tries and his only extra-point attempt.
