  • Browns' Andre Szmyt: Makes three field goals in loss

Szmyt went 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts in Sunday's 23-9 loss to the Steelers. Szmyt accounted for all of Cleveland's offense in Week 6, making field goals from 31, 53 and 32 yards in the defeat. The kicker has now gone 9-for-11 on field-goal tries, including 3-for-4 from 50-plus yards, while making seven of eight PATs over six games this season.

  • Browns' Andre Szmyt: Perfect day in London

Szmyt made his lone field-goal try and both of his extra-point attempts during the Browns' 21-17 loss to the Vikings on Sunday. Szmyt connected on a 31-yard chip shot late in the second quarter to give the Browns a 10-7 lead heading into halftime. The rookie kicker has attempted three kicks or less in each of the last four games due to Cleveland's offense struggling to move the ball down the field. Szmyt has gone 6-for-8 on field-goal attempts and 7-for-8 on extra-point tries through the first five games of the regular season.

  • Browns' Andre Szmyt: Quiet day in Detroit

Szmyt made one of two field-goal attempts and connected on his only PAT in Sunday's 34-10 loss to the Lions. Szmyt made a 33-yard field goal and missed a 56-yard attempt wide left in the third quarter. The kicker has now gone 4-for-6 on field-goal tries, including 1-for-3 from 50-plus yards, while making five of six extra-point attempts over four games this season.

  • Browns' Andre Szmyt: Boots game-winning kick

Szmyt converted both of his field-goal attempts and lone extra-point kick in Sunday's 13-10 win over the Packers. There were a few heroes on defense and special teams, but Szmyt gets the headliner. His 55-yard field goal with no time left on the clock won the game for the Browns. It was the second straight week of redemption for the kicker, who missed two kicks in the season-opening, one-point loss to the Bengals.

  • Browns' Andre Szmyt: Cleared to kick Sunday

Szmyt (calf) is slated to kick Sunday against the Packers, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Per the report, Szmyt's MRI checked out okay, and Saturday the Browns removed the 'questionable' designation that the kicker had carried after being limited in practice Friday. In two games thus far, Szmyt has made two of his three field-goal attempts and three of his four extra-point tries.

  • Browns' Andre Szmyt: Bounces back against Ravens

Szmyt made his only field-goal attempt and both extra-point attempts in Sunday's 41-17 loss to the Ravens. Szmyt had a few high-profile misses in Week 1 that cost the Browns a chance at victory. The stakes were lower in Sunday's blowout loss, but he did manage to convert a 38-yard field goal attempt late in the second quarter. Szmyt will need to continue proving himself, but he showed improvement in Week 2.

  • Browns' Andre Szmyt: Retaining kicking job for Week 2

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Szmyt will remain the team's kicker for Sunday's game in Baltimore, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The Syracuse product was shaky in his NFL debut during this past Sunday's 17-16 loss to the Bengals, missing one of two extra-point attempts and a 36-yard field-goal try that would have put the Browns ahead in the fourth quarter. Despite the 26-year-old's rough performance, the Browns haven't worked out any other kickers this week, and Stefanski is optimistic that Szmyt will improve as the season rolls along. However, another poor showing by Szmyt in Week 2 could prompt Stefanski to rethink the team's plans at kicker moving forward.

  • Browns' Andre Szmyt: Shaky in NFL debut

Szmyt converted 1-of-2 field-goal attempts and 1-of-2 extra-point kicks in Sunday's 17-16 loss to the Bengals in Week 1. Szmyt, who made his NFL debut, was fine in the first half, drilling a 45-yard field goal just before halftime, but missed both of his second-half tries wide right. Those were obviously big misses for the Browns, whose defense played well enough to steal a win. Szmyt won the job this summer, outkicking incumbent Dustin Hopkins, who was coming off a poor 2024 and missed kicks in preseason games. Whether Szmyt rushed his approach, or if the NFL stage was too much for him, Cleveland may consider looking at kickers this week.

  • Browns' Andre Szmyt: Wins kicker competition

Szmyt is positioned as the Browns' starting placekicker after the team waived Dustin Hopkins on Tuesday, per Kelsey Russo of the team's official site. Hopkins converted just 67 percent of his field-goal attempts across 16 regular-season appearances last season, prompting Cleveland to move on. Szmyt impressed for the St. Louis Battlehawks in the UFL this spring, converting 19 of 21 field-goal attempts (90.5 percent), and he'll now get an opportunity to prove he can maintain similar accuracy in the NFL.

  • Browns' Andre Szmyt: Makes three kicks Saturday

Szmyt converted both of his field-goal attempts and an extra-point kick in Saturday's 22-13 preseason win over Philadelphia. Szmyt showed off his leg with a 49-yarder in the second quarter and later was successful on a 33-yarder. He's in camp along with Dustin Hopkins, who nailed a 46-yarder earlier in the game. Hopkins is expected to open the regular season as Cleveland's placekicker, but he's coming off a 2024 season in which he made just 18-of-27 field-goal attempts. Hence, the decision to bring in Szmyt as competition.

  • Browns' Andre Szmyt: Resurfaces in Cleveland

The Browns signed Szmyt to a contract Thursday, Kelsey Russo of the team's official site reports. Szmyt spent time on Cleveland's practice squad last December and began the offseason on the team's 90-man roster, but he was waived in early June to make room for second-year wideout Jaelen Gill. Now, with the Browns' release of Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Szmyt gets an opportunity to re-sign with the team and provide competition for projected starting kicker Dustin Hopkins.

  • Browns' Andre Szmyt: Back with Browns on futures deal

Cleveland signed Szmyt to a reserve/futures contract Tuesday. The Browns cut Szmyt from their practice squad in December, but now he'll start 2025 back with them. Starting kicker Dustin Hopkins is coming off a rough season (66.7 percent field-goal conversion rate), so there could be competition at the position before the next campaign.

  • Andre Szmyt: Joins Cleveland's practice squad

Szmyt agreed to a contract with the Browns' practice squad Tuesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. Cleveland's decision to bring Szmyt aboard as a member of its practice squad could hint that Dustin Hopkins' standing as the team's kicker is on shaky ground after another poor performance in Sunday's 24-6 loss to the Bengals. After he was inactive for the Week 15 loss to the Chiefs following a string of poor outings, Hopkins stepped back in as Cleveland's kicker for Week 16 but missed his lone extra-point attempt in the loss. With Hopkins having now missed 12 total kicks on the season (nine field goals, three extra points), the Browns could turn to Szmyt if he impresses in his initial practices with the team. The 26-year-old has yet to make his NFL debut since going undrafted out of Syracuse in 2023, but he was one of the top kickers in the UFL this past spring as a member of the St. Louis Battlehawks, converting 19 of 21 field-goal attempts with a long of 61 yards.
