  • 49ers' Nate Hobbs: Placed on injured reserve

The 49ers placed Hobbs (groin) on injured reserve Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Hobbs injured his groin during a joint practice with the Titans in mid-August, and it was reported at the time by Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area that the 2021 fifth-rounder would miss a few weeks. Hobbs will be required to miss at least four games unless he works out an injury settlement with the team. If it's the former, the earliest he can make his 2026 regular-season debut is Week 5 against the Seahawks on Sunday, Oct. 11. With Hobbs sidelined, Siran Neal and Jack Jones will serve as the 49ers' depth options at cornerback behind Renardo Green (hamstring) and Deommodore Lenoir.

  • 49ers' Nate Hobbs: Set to miss a few weeks

Hobbs (groin) is projected to miss a few weeks due to injury, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Hobbs suffered a groin injury during a joint practice with the Titans, but the issue should not persist past the preseason. With fellow cornerback Jack Jones (hand) leaving Thursday night's preseason game against the Titans due to injury, Darrell Luter and Ephesians Prysock are set to see some snaps at cornerback during the remainder of the preseason.

  • 49ers' Nate Hobbs: Getting in reps at training camp

Hobbs (knee) is participating at the start of 49ers training camp, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.

Hobbs missed the first day of camp with an unspecified illness, but he returned to the practice field Monday. It appears he has also recovered from the MCL tear he suffered Week 17 of last season, so he should have a real opportunity to make San Francisco's 53-man roster in a depth capacity.

  • 49ers' Nate Hobbs: Signs with San Francisco

The 49ers agreed to terms with Hobbs (knee) on a one-year, $4 million contract Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Hobbs signed a four-year, $48 million deal with the Packers last offseason to be the team's slot corner, but he dealt with injuries seemingly all season and appeared in just 11 regular-season contests. Hobbs finished with a career-low 27 tackles (14 solo) and just two pass breakups before being released this week. He'll try to get healthy in San Francisco after suffering a torn MCL in Week 17.

  • Nate Hobbs: Set to be released by Packers

The Packers will release Hobbs (knee) after the start of the new league year, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.

Despite inking a four-year, $48 million deal with the Packers in March of 2025, Hobbs' time in Green Bay has come to an end after just one season. The Illinois product struggled to stay on the field and finished the year on IR due to an MCL tear. Across 11 appearances in 2025, Hobbs logged 356 defensive snaps and tallied 27 total tackles and two passes defensed (all career lows). While the 26-year-old's release does not become official until June 1, he's expected to be coveted by teams in need of secondary help ahead of next season.

  • Packers' Nate Hobbs: Ends season with MCL tear

Hobbs (IR, knee) ended the 2025 season with 27 tackles (14 solo) and two passes defensed over 11 games.

The starting cornerback's season ended early due to a torn MCL he suffered in the Packers' Week 17 loss to the Ravens. Hobbs started the season late due to a knee injury and also missed four games in the middle of the 2025 campaign due to the same lingering knee issue. This was the first season of the cornerback's four-year, $48 million contract with the Packers. The biggest question about Hobbs heading into the 2026 season will be whether or not knee issues will continue to affect his week-to-week availability.
