49ers' Darrick Forrest: Goes to IR
San Francisco placed Forrest (undisclosed) on its injured reserve list Thursday.
It's not clear what kind of injury Forrest is dealing with, but he's now on track to spend the entire 2026 season on IR unless he negotiates an injury settlement with the 49ers. His absence could open up more opportunities for rookie undrafted free agents Jalen Stroman and Larry Worth.

Bills' Darrick Forrest: Becoming a Bill
Buffalo will sign Forrest to a one-year contract, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Forrest took a back seat in Washington's defensive backfield in 2024, totaling just 70 defensive snaps over 10 regular-season games after playing 1,126 defensive snaps in his 22 games prior. His shortest path to snaps with the Bills to start 2025 will probably be with the special teams unit.

Commanders' Darrick Forrest: Plays 16 snaps vs. Dolphins
Forrest (hamstring) finished Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins with one tackle while playing 16 snaps (13 on offense, three on special teams).
Forrest had been held out of practice since early August after sustaining a hamstring injury. He played in just five regular-season games last year due to a shoulder fracture in October, and his hamstring injury has prevented him from taking valuable reps with the defense. After starting at safety over the last two seasons, Forrest appears to be slated to serve in a backup role behind Jeremy Chinn and Quan Martin.

Commanders' Darrick Forrest: Not participating in practice
Forrest (hamstring) is at practice Friday but is not participating, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Forrest doesn't appear to be leading the competition to earn the Commanders' starting free-safety spot during training camp, and he's also battling a hamstring problem. The 5-foot-11 safety recorded 29 tackles (13 solo) and zero interceptions in the 2023 season with Washington.

Commanders' Darrick Forrest: Working with backups
Quan Martin has been getting most of the first-team reps at free safety ahead of Forrest and Percy Butler, Hogs Haven's Jamual Forrest reports.
Forrest and Butler both have starting experience, but Martin is an early draft pick (2023 second-rounder) with first-rate athleticism (4.46 40, 44-inch vertical). After mostly defending the slot as a rookie, Martin will move back in the secondary to facilitate rookie second-round pick Mike Sainristil becoming the new nickelback. With Jeremy Chinn expected to start at strong safety, Forrest and Butler look to be the odd men out.

Commanders' Darrick Forrest: Returns healthy for offseason program
Forrest was healthy for spring practices after suffering a season-ending shoulder fracture in October, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
Forrest became a starter during the 2022 season and then played 99.1 percent of defensive snaps through Week 5 in 2023. Fellow safety Percy Butler played nearly every snap over the next 10 games following Forrest's injury, recording 57 tackles and six passes defended in that stretch. Forrest seems like the favorite to start in the final season of his rookie contract, but he may spend more time in deep coverage after Washington signed 220-pound Jeremy Chinn to replace Kamren Curl at the other safety spot. Forrest could perhaps have more fantasy value if he ends up starting next to Butler while Chinn guards the slot and/or plays as a pseudo-linebacker.
