Johnson (concussion) registered four tackles (two solo) during the Panthers' 30-10 preseason loss to the Browns on Friday. Johnson is competing for a backup linebacker spot on the Panthers' final 53-man roster. • Panthers' DJ Johnson: Dealing with concussion

The Panthers placed Johnson (concussion) on the reserve/non-football injury list Friday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. Johnson had previously been ruled out due to a personal matter, but it's been revealed that he suffered a concussion in a car accident Thursday. He finishes his second pro season with 44 tackles (19 solo), including 0.5 sacks, one pass breakup and one fumble recovery across 14 games as a reserve edge rusher.

  • Panthers' DJ Johnson: Inactive for Week 12

Johnson (concussion) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports. Johnson was diagnosed with a concussion during the Panthers' Week 10 win over the Giants. He was able to practice all week -- including full sessions Wednesday and Friday -- but it appears the 2023 third-round pick was unable to clear the league's five-step concussion protocol in time for Sunday's game. Johnson's next opportunity to play will be Week 13 against the Buccaneers on Sunday, Dec. 1. Cam Gill, Charles Harris and Kenny Dyson will serve as the Panthers' rotational outside linebackers Sunday behind starters D.J. Wonnum and Jadeveon Clowney.

Johnson (concussion) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. Johnson was concussed in the Panthers' Week 10 win over the Giants and had the Week 11 bye to recover. He was able to sandwich full practices Wednesday and Friday around a limited session Thursday. Johnson has 29 tackles (10 solo), including 0.5 sacks, and one pass breakup on limited snaps as a sub-package linebacker this season.

  • Panthers' DJ Johnson: Past ankle issue

Johnson (ankle) was absent from the Panthers' injury report Wednesday. Johnson was held out of Carolina's Week 9 win over the Saints due to an ankle issue. However, Wednesday's injury report suggests that the 2023 third-round pick from Oregon has moved past his injury. Expect Johnson to serve as one of the Panthers' top rotational outside linebackers once again in Week 10, when the team travels to Germany to face the Giants.

  • Panthers' DJ Johnson: Out Week 9

Johnson (ankle) is listed as inactive for Sunday's tilt against the Saints, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official website reports. Johnson injured his ankle in last week's loss to the Broncos and had to be carted to the locker room. Still, he surprisingly drew a questionable designation for this week's game. He will ultimately be unable to give it a go. In his absence, Cam Gill will be a candidate to see increased snaps providing depth at strongside linebacker.

  • Panthers' DJ Johnson: Healthy ahead of Week 14

Johnson (elbow) does not appear on the Panthers' injury report Friday. The linebacker recorded 14 tackles while also deflecting a pass over eight games in his rookie campaign with the Panthers.
