  • Lions' Payton Turner: Signs with Detroit

The Lions signed Turner (ribs) on Friday, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports.

Turner was the 28th overall pick in the 2021 Draft by the Saints but recorded just 5.0 sacks across 31 regular-season games with New Orleans. He spent the 2025 campaign with Dallas but missed the entire season on injured reserve with a ribs injury. Turner will compete for a job in Detroit.

  • Cowboys' Payton Turner: Won't play Thursday

Turner (ribs) has been ruled out ahead of Thursday's matchup against the Commanders, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

Despite practicing in a limited fashion throughout the week, Turner won't make his 2025 debut in Thursday's divisional matchup. While the 2021 first-round pick remains on the injured reserve list, expect Dante Fowler and rookie Donovan Ezeiruaku to serve as the Cowboys' top defensive ends in Week 17.

  • Cowboys' Payton Turner: Returns to practice

Turner (ribs) had his 21-day window opened to return from the injured reserve list Wednesday.

Turner has yet to play this season due to a rib injury, but it now appears he's nearing a return. The 2021 first-round pick from Houston appeared in 16 games with the Saints in 2024, recording 21 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, four passes defensed and two forced fumbles. Dallas must still activate the 26-year-old to its active roster in order for him to suit up for the Week 16 matchup against the Chargers.

  • Cowboys' Payton Turner: Missing four games at least

The Cowboys placed Turner (ribs) on injured reserve Tuesday, ruling him out for at least the first four games of the regular season.

Turner could have his practice window opened after Week 4 and be back on the field in time to suit up Week 5 against the Jets on Sunday, Oct. 5, depending on the recovery timetable required for his ribs injury. Once fully healthy, 2021 first-round pick, who spent the first four years of his NFL career in New Orleans, will work to carve out a depth role in the Cowboys' pass-rush rotation.

  • Cowboys' Payton Turner: Past ribs injury

Turner logged two tackles (one solo) in Dallas' preseason loss Saturday versus Baltimore.

Turner suffered a ribs injury during practice last week but is now healthy again. He signed with the team back in March and is competing to earn a spot on the final roster as a backup defensive end.

  • Cowboys' Payton Turner: Dealing with rib injury

Turner left Tuesday's training camp practice due to a rib injury, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Turner appeared to initially suffer the injury during the first quarter of the Cowboys' preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday, but he managed to return to finish with two tackles (one solo) while playing 18 snaps (15 on defense, three on special teams). Turner was on the field for individual drills before heading to the locker room, and he'll undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury. The results of those tests, coupled with his practice participation over the coming days, will indicate his chances of playing in Saturday's exhibition game against the Ravens.
