Godwin (fibula) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the 49ers and now considered week-to-week, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.
Godwin didn't practice at all this week, after topping 70 percent snap share Weeks 4 and 5. It appears the Bucs brought Godwin back too soon, though Bucs coach Todd Bowles said Friday that the wideout's current injury isn't to the part of his fibula that he broke last year. With both Godwin and Mike Evans (hamstring) out of the lineup again, Tampa Bay will turn to Sterling Shepard and Tez Johnson alongside rookie standout Emeka Egbuka. Depth options include Ryan Miller and Kameron Johnson.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Expected to sit versus 49ers
Rotowire
Godwin (fibula) isn't expected to play Sunday against the 49ers, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Godwin hasn't been officially ruled out by the team, but that could happen later Friday when the Buccaneers release their final Week 6 injury report. Emeka Egbuka is set to lead a Tampa Bay receiving corps that remains without Mike Evans (hamstring), with Sterling Shepard and Tez Johnson likely to see substantial playing time as well.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Another missed practice
Rotowire
Godwin (fibula) didn't practice Thursday, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
All of Godwin, fellow WR Mike Evans (hamstring) and RB Bucky Irving (foot/shoulder) weren't spotted at Thursday's session and subsequently went down as non-participants for a second day in a row. Both Evans and Irving are trending toward absences Sunday against the 49ers due to their respective lingering injuries, but it's unclear if Godwin's new fibula issue has him in the same boat. Friday's practice thus will be key for Godwin to put himself in a position to suit up (or not) this weekend.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Remains absent from practice
Rotowire
Godwin (fibula) wasn't spotted on the field for Thursday's practice, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Unless he fits in some on-field work behind the scenes during the closed portion of Thursday's session, Godwin will go down as a non-participant for the Buccaneers' first two Week 6 practices. Fellow wideout Mike Evans (hamstring) and running back Bucky Irving (shoulder/foot) have joined Godwin in sitting out both practices, putting the Buccaneers at risk of being without three of their top playmakers for Sunday's game against the 49ers. If both Godwin and Evans are sidelined for the Week 6 contest, Sterling Shepard, Tez Johnson and Ryan Miller could all be in line for added snaps behind Emeka Egbuka, who would be locked in as Tampa Bay's clear No. 1 wideout.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Dealing with injured fibula
Rotowire
Godwin (fibula) didn't participate in Wednesday's walkthrough.
The Buccaneers were without Godwin, fellow WR Mike Evans (hamstring) and No. 1 RB Bucky Irving (foot/shoulder) to kick off Week 6 prep. Godwin has two games under his belt after recovering from the dislocated left ankle that he suffered Week 7 of last season, but his returns (6-52-0 on 14 targets) have been minimal. With a new injury in tow, his status bears watching as the week goes on to get a sense of his availability for Sunday's contest against the 49ers.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Held to three catches in shootout
Rotowire
Godwin had three receptions on four targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 38-35 win over the Seahawks.
Godwin saw his efficiency improve from the 30 percent catch rate he posted in his return from injury last week. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, his target count dropped dramatically from the 10 he garnered against the Eagles in Week 4. Godwin's return from an ankle injury sustained in Week 7 of the 2024 season has come along slowly, dampening expectations for the veteran until we see a true return to form. The Buccaneers could still be without top wideout Mike Evans (hamstring) in Week 6, which would keep Godwin in the starting lineup against the 49ers next Sunday.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Set for extra opportunities again
Rotowire
Godwin is likely to see elevated target volume again in Sunday's Week 5 matchup against the Seahawks due to Mike Evans (hamstring) being inactive for the contest.
Godwin made his return from his own serious injury -- a dislocated ankle suffered Week 7 of last season -- Week 4 against the Eagles, the first game of Evans' current absence. He saw 10 targets across 58 snaps right out of the gate, but he was able to haul in only three of them for 26 yards. Nevertheless, with another week of practice, not to mention his first game action in nearly a year, now under his belt, Godwin could well be more efficient while facing a Seahawks secondary that once again will play without cornerback Devon Witherspoon (knee) and safety Julian Love (hamstring).

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Sleeper WRs
Rotowire
Godwin's stat line in Week 4 against Philadelphia wasn't pretty, with three catches for 26 yards, but he had 10 targets, which is what matters most. That was his first game back from the ankle injury he suffered in Week 7 last season, and he needed to shake off the rust. This week, he doesn't have an easy matchup against the Seahawks, who are No. 3 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing receivers. But Baker Mayfield should continue to lean on Godwin, who should be considered a low-end No. 2 Fantasy receiver in the majority of leagues.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Contrarian DFS Play
Rotowire
Godwin's stat line in his debut wasn't pretty and Seattle has been great against receivers. That keeps both Godwin's price and his projected roster rate in check. But he had 10 targets in that debut and over 150 air yards. That implies big upside and makes it worth betting that last week's struggles were just him shaking off the rust. With Mike Evans out I expect Baker Mayfield to go back to Godwin early and often.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Three catches in season debut
Rotowire
Godwin (ankle) secured three of 10 targets for 26 yards in the Buccaneers' 31-25 loss to the Eagles on Sunday.
Godwin made his season debut after completing his recovery from last October's ankle dislocation, and despite concerns he'd be eased into action, the veteran wideout finished tied for the team lead in targets with Emeka Egbuka. Godwin's inefficiency wasn't unexpected considering the coverage skills of the Eagles' secondary and his long layoff, but the immediate attention from Baker Mayfield was also warranted due to the absence of Mike Evans (hamstring). With Evans expected to miss multiple games, Godwin is likely to remain heavily involved in the passing attack in a Week 5 road trip to Seattle.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Season debut on tap
Rotowire
Godwin (foot) is active for Sunday's game against the Eagles.
Godwin built up his conditioning over the last three weeks, culminating with full practices Wednesday and Friday around a scheduled rest day Thursday. Now that he's finished his recovery from the dislocated left ankle that he sustained Week 7 of last season, he's ready for his first game action of 2025. The Buccaneers will be without Mike Evans (hamstring) on Sunday, so even if Godwin is inhibited at all, he'll be in the mix for passes from quarterback Baker Mayfield (right biceps) along with rookie first-round pick Emeka Egbuka and veteran Sterling Shepard.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Season debut expected Sunday
Rotowire
Godwin (ankle) is expected to play Sunday against the Eagles, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Godwin, who has missed the first three games of the season, was a full participant in practice Friday and is officially listed as questionable for the contest. His expected return to the mix arrives at an opportune juncture, with fellow WR Mike Evans expected to miss three-to-four weeks with a hamstring injury. Also trending toward playing versus the Eagles is QB Baker Mayfield (biceps, questionable), with the duo's Week 4 status set to be confirmed when the Buccaneers post their inactives ahead of Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Questionable after full practice
Rotowire
Godwin (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Eagles after logging a full practice Friday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Godwin sandwiched full practices on Wednesday and Friday around scheduled rest Thursday. Meanwhile, Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles suggested Friday that Godwin, QB Baker Mayfield (biceps) and LT Tristan Wirfs (ankle) are all on track to play this weekend. That doesn't mean Godwin will jump right back into last year's workload or production, but the Bucs could certainly use his help after losing Mike Evans to a hamstring injury last week.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: DNP on Thursday
Rotowire
Godwin (ankle) didn't practice Thursday.
Godwin is in the stretch run of his recovery from the dislocated left ankle that he sustained Week 7 of last season. Prior to logging a full practice Wednesday, he was listed as limited on five of six injury reports between Weeks 2 and 3 prep. Thursday's absence may merely be maintenance after he increased his activity level significantly Wednesday, as coach Todd Bowles told Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site. Friday's practice report will unveil if Godwin indeed has a chance to make his season debut Sunday versus the Eagles, which would be nice timing for Tampa Bay's offense with fellow WR Mike Evans (hamstring) expected to miss some time.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Logs full practice Wednesday
Rotowire
Godwin (ankle) was a full practice participant Wednesday.
Between prep for Weeks 2 and 3, Godwin combined to log five limited practices in six chances to do so, including three straight to end last week. He was held out of each of the Buccaneers' first three games of the season due to the dislocated left ankle that he suffered Week 7 of the 2024 campaign. Coach Todd Bowles told Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site on Wednesday that Godwin upped his activity level "a lot" from last week, as indicated by his full session, but he added that the wide receiver will be an "end-of-the-week" evaluation, per Greg Auman of Fox Sports. As a result, Godwin's listing on Friday's injury report may provide the first indication that he's cleared for his first game action in nearly one year ahead of Sunday's contest against the Eagles.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Ruled out for Week 3
Rotowire
Godwin (ankle) is nearing a return but won't play this Sunday against the Jets, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com suggested Wednesday that Godwin could return for a Week 4 showdown with Philadelphia, which also looks like a reasonable target date for standout left tackle Tristan Wirfs (knee). In any case, the Bucs have ruled out both for Week 3, after Godwin was a limited practice participant Wednesday and Thursday. An upgrade to full participation should come soon.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Limited again Thursday
Rotowire
Godwin (ankle) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday.
This marks Godwin's first back-to-back practices since dislocating his left ankle Week 7 of last season, indicating his conditioning is improving as he seeks to return to action. Friday's injury report will reveal if he has a chance to suit up Sunday versus the Jets, but if he doesn't and because rookie standout Emeka Egbuka (hip/groin) has yet to take part in drills this week, the Buccaneers could be forced to roll with Sterling Shepard, Tez Johnson, Ryan Miller and Kameron Johnson as the wide receivers not named Mike Evans in Week 3.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Won't return in Week 2
Rotowire
Coach Todd Bowles said Saturday that Godwin (ankle) has been ruled out for Monday's game at Houston, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Godwin logged his first practice reps Thursday since sustaining a dislocated left ankle Week 7 during the 2024 campaign, but he followed up that limited session with no activity Friday before Bowles made a ruling on his availability for Week 2. His next chance for game action arrives Sunday, Sept. 21 against the Jets, but he may need to practice on back-to-back days in order to put himself in a position to make his season debut. Mike Evans and rookie first-round pick Emeka Egbuka will continue to serve as the primary wide receivers for quarterback Baker Mayfield until Godwin is cleared to return.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Doesn't practice Friday
Rotowire
Godwin (ankle) didn't practice Friday.
Godwin was limited Thursday in his first practice since suffering a dislocated left ankle Week 7 of last season, signaling that he was beginning to ramp up his conditioning. His next step in that regard likely will be taking part in drills on back-to-back days, which, because it didn't happen this week, may be an indication that he isn't a great candidate to return to action Monday at Houston. Ultimately, Tampa Bay can make a decision on Godwin's status for that contest when it posts its final Week 2 injury report Saturday.

Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Officially limited in return to practice
Rotowire
Head coach Todd Bowles said Godwin (ankle) was limited at Thursday's practice, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Bowles also told Brianna Dix of the team's official site that the Buccaneers "will see how [Godwin and Tristan Wirfs (knee)] come along during the week," as both players "have a lot of tests to pass." Godwin got back on the practice field Thursday for the first time since dislocating his left ankle Week 7 of last season, and while he avoided the reserve/PUP list to begin the current campaign, the expectation for Godwin in particular was to give him a chance to return to game action by the end of September. Still, Tampa Bay seemingly is keeping the door open for Godwin to suit up Monday at Houston, assuming he clears the aforementioned hurdles.
