Falcons' Maason Smith: Sent to Atlanta
The Falcons acquired Smith from the Jaguars on Friday in exchange for Ruke Orhorhoro, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Both Smith and Orhorhoro were second-round picks in the 2024 Draft and will get a change of scenery. In two seasons with the Jaguars, Smith appeared in 24 regular-season contests and logged 32 tackles (14 solo), including 3.0 sacks, and four pass breakups.

Jaguars' Maason Smith: Good to go Week 2
Smith is active for Sunday's battle against the Bengals.
Smith missed multiple weeks during training camp due to an undisclosed issue and was then a healthy scratch for Week 1 of the regular season. However, he's ready to roll for Week 2 and could see some rotational snaps along Jacksonville's defensive line. Smith will likely take some of the work that Khalen Saunders, who is a healthy scratch Sunday, assumed in the season-opener.

Smith (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Smith was activated from the active/PUP list mid-August and is not dealing with an injury, so he is a healthy scratch for Week 1, per Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union. Smith, the Jaguars' 2024 second-round pick, was expected to serve in a meaningful role on the interior defensive line, but he'll observe Sunday's game in street clothes while Khalen Saunders and Austin Johnson work in rotation with DaVon Hamilton and Arik Armstead. Smith's next opportunity to make his 2025 debut is Sunday, Sept. 14 against the Bengals in Cincinnati.

Jaguars' Maason Smith: Activated from PUP list Thursday
Smith (undisclosed) was activated off the active/PUP list Thursday.
Smith was placed on the active/PUP list July 23 in a move that head coach Liam Coen described as precautionary. The 2024 second-round pick has regained health and will push for a role on the interior of Jacksonville's defensive line.

Jaguars head coach Liam Coen told reporters Wednesday that Smith's (undisclosed) placement on the active/PUP list was cautionary, Mia O'Brien of 1010 XL 92.5 FM Jacksonville reports.
The Jaguars haven't disclosed the exact nature of Smith's injury. However, it appears the 2024 second-round pick's injury isn't serious, which should open the door for him to participate in training camp and the preseason. Smith saw his snap count grow in the latter part of his rookie campaign, and he registered 12 tackles (six solo), including 2.0 sacks, and two pass defenses across the last six games of the 2024 regular season.

The Jaguars placed Smith (undisclosed) on the active/PUP list Tuesday, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.
Smith was the 48th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and appeared in 11 regular-season games as a rookie, making five starts. He finished the campaign with 17 tackles (10 solo), including 3.0 sacks, and three pass breakups on 384 defensive snaps. Smith should again be a prominent member of the Jaguars' defensive-line rotation.

Smith tallied 17 total tackles, including 3.0 sacks, and defended three passes over 11 games in 2024.
Smith, a 2024 second-round pick from LSU, saw a relatively large role on the Jaguars' defense during his rookie season, playing 365 defensive snaps and making five starts over his 11 appearances. He ranked third on Jacksonville's defense in sacks and could very well see a larger role in 2025, with the team's pass-rush unit struggling in 2024 (fifth-fewest sacks in the NFL). Expect Smith to compete with DaVon Hamilton and Arik Armstead for a starting position on the Jaguars' defense throughout the offseason.

Smith appears to be set to return to the field after a four-game absence with an ankle injury. The 22-year-old has played in five games this season, compiling five total tackles (four solo), including 1.0 sacks, while also adding a pass defensed.
