  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Zero touches against Lions

Shipley went without a carry or target while playing seven of the Eagles' 72 snaps on offense in Sunday's 16-9 win over the Lions. One week after Shipley touched the ball a season-high six times on offense, he went an entire game without any usage, something that's happened on two other occasions already this season. The Eagles leaned heavily on starter Saquon Barkley in the win, as fellow reserve back Tank Bigsby played just one more snap than Shipley.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Season-high six touches

Shipley rushed four times for 17 yards and caught a pair of passes for 17 more yards in Monday's win over the Packers. Both Shipley's carries and catches represented season highs, but the overall picture was still quite a minor role for Shipley. He did at least see the field for 12 offensive snaps (another season high and four more than Tank Bigsby managed), but his pathway to becoming a significant part of the Eagles' offense is hard to envision as long as Saquon Barkley remains healthy.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Small role in Week 8

Shipley rushed three times for a total of two yards in Sunday's 38-20 win over the Giants. Shipley appears to have slipped to third on the depth chart, as his eight offensive snaps were only half of those played by Tank Bigsby, who carried the ball nine times. Saquon Barkley exited with a groin injury at the end of the third quarter but believes he'll be good to go after the team's Week 9 bye. If Barkley does wind up missing time, Shipley should play a larger role than normal in Week 10 against the Packers but would likely still see fewer touches than Bigsby.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Barely features in Week 6

Shipley saw the field for just three offensive snaps in Thursday's loss to the Giants. Shipley hasn't been a significant part of the offense at any point this season for the Eagles, but Thursday represented his season-low snap count. He did not touch the ball on offense but did return one kick for 22 yards.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Limited action in return

Shipley played just three snaps on offense and didn't record a carry or draw a target in Sunday's 31-25 win over the Buccaneers. Shipley was back in action after missing the previous two games due to an oblique injury, but his role was almost exclusively limited to special teams, where he was featured as a kick returner. AJ Dillon (three carries for 17 yards) ended up serving as the No. 2 back behind Saquon Barkley.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Opens Week 4 with full practice

Shipley (oblique) was a full practice participant Wednesday. Shipley hurt his oblique in Week 1 against Dallas and hasn't been able to play since. He finished last week with a pair of limited practices and has now been cleared to practice in full, which bodes well for his likelihood of returning to gameday action Sunday in Tampa Bay. If he's able to suit up, Shipley will likely slide back into the No. 2 RB role behind workhorse Saquon Barkley.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Back at practice

Shipley (oblique) was a limited participant at practice Thursday. Shipley was unable to practice Wednesday due to an oblique injury, so his return to action Thursday is a positive sign. The running back will look to log a full practice Friday before the team faces the Rams on Sunday.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Not practicing

Shipley (ribs) isn't practicing Wednesday, Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia reports. Shipley took three carries for 26 yards in the first half of last Thursday's win over Dallas, but he was injured on a kickoff late in the second quarter and didn't play after halftime. The Eagles then traded for RB Tank Bigsby on Monday, giving up fifth- and sixth-round picks in 2026, which is seemingly enough compensation to put Shipley on the hot seat even if he returns from his injury soon (which is far from guaranteed). AJ Dillon filled in as the No. 2 RB after halftime last Thursday, taking three carries for 10 yards while occasionally spelling Saquon Barkley, who finished the night with a 79 percent snap share and 22 touches.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Competing with AJ Dillon

Shipley and AJ Dillon are the top candidates for backup roles in Philadelphia's backfield, according to Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. The stylistic difference is drastic, with Dillon a 247-pound bruiser who has 597 career carries in the regular season. Shipley, a fourth-round pick last year, is listed at 209 pounds, and he took just 30 carries in 16 games during his initial NFL regular season. The report notes that Shipley should have a roster spot and a role on special teams even if Dillon earns the No. 2 RB role this summer. The two might ultimately be part of a committee in the event of a Saquon Barkley injury.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Ready to play Sunday

Shipley (ankle) was a full participant in Friday's practice. He does not carry an injury designation for Sunday's NFC wild-card round matchup against the Packers. Shipley began the week of practice as a limited participant, but he's managed to gain a clean bill of health in advance of Sunday's home wild-card game. The rookie fourth-round pick is set to handle his usual No. 3 role out of the backfield for Philadelphia behind Saquon Barkley and Kenneth Gainwell.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Questionable after full practice

Shipley (concussion) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Giants. Shipley practiced without limitations Friday, but he'll need to be cleared by an independent neurologist to exit the concussion protocol and suit up. He was concussed Week 16 against the Commanders and subsequently sat out against the Cowboys in Week 17. The rookie fourth-round draft pick has only 20 carries all season, but Shipley and Kenneth Gainwell could both be in store for significant roles in the regular-season finale, as Saquon Barkley's listed as doubtful due to rest purposes.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Out with concussion Week 17

Shipley (concussion) won't play Sunday against the Cowboys. Shipley suffered a concussion last Sunday against the Commanders and hasn't been able to clear the NFL's five-step protocol. He's logged only one snap on offense over his past six games, so Shipley's absence will mostly impact the special-teams unit. Philadelphia signed Lew Nichols to the practice squad Thursday, and he could be elevated to provide running-back depth against Dallas.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Exits for concussion check

Shipley left Sunday's Week 16 matchup against Washington to be evaluated for a possible concussion, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports. Shipley headed to the locker room in the first quarter and was deemed questionable to return. He hadn't gotten any touches on offense prior to exiting. Shipley has played only one offensive snap over the past five weeks while contributing as a core special-teamer.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Zero offensive snaps

Shipley did not see the field for an offensive snap in Thursday's 26-18 win over the Commanders. Shipley saw the field for 11 offensive snaps and rushed nine times late in a 28-point win over Dallas in Week 10, but with the score close throughout the Week 11 win against Washington, there was no room for third-stringers like Shipley to take the field. He's carried the ball a total of 19 times through 10 games this season.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Sees field late in blowout win

Shipley carried the ball eight times for 15 yards in Sunday's 28-3 win over the Giants. Prior to Week 7, Shipley had seen the field for a total of five offensive snaps, with his only opportunities to touch the ball coming as a kick returner. After establishing a four-score lead early in the fourth quarter, the team elected to rest its starters, with both Shipley and second-string running back Kenneth Gainwell receiving a handful of opportunities. Shipley didn't do anything with his brief look to suggest that he'll be moving up the depth chart any time soon.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Barely sees field in first NFL game1

Shipley played just four offensive snaps in his NFL debut Friday against the Packers and did not see a carry or a target. Shipley, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft, does not appear to be a significant part of the Eagles' offensive gameplan for now, though he did at least play 17 snaps on special teams. If Saquon Barkley were to suffer an injury, Kenneth Gainwell is the more likely option to step into a starting role, having seen the field for 14 offensive snaps on Friday.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Four catches after Gainwell starts

Shipley rushed five times for 15 yards and caught all four of his targets for 31 yards in Thursday's 14-13 preseason win over the Patriots. Kenneth Gainwell got the start Thursday with Saquon Barkley rested, suggesting Gainwell remains in pole position for the top backup spot. Once Shipley got into the game, he continued to show off his receiving skills after catching a seven-yard touchdown in the preseason opener against Baltimore. The rookie fourth-round pick will have one more preseason audition, Aug. 24 against the Vikings, in his bid to earn regular-season playing time.

  • Eagles' Will Shipley: Flies to Philly in fourth round

The Eagles selected Shipley in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 127th overall. Those hoping for Shipley to make an immediate impact as a rookie may be disappointed with this selection because the Eagles gave Saquon Barkley a big contract this offseason. Still, Shipley profiles as a solid depth option behind Barkley, who has had durability issues. Shipley starred at Clemson for three years after being ranked as a five-star recruit in high school. He topped out with 210 carries for 1,182 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2022 and was more so part of a committee as a junior. Shipley did not test at the combine due to a knee issue but put down a 4.45 in the 40 at Clemson's Pro Day. He may not be built for workhorse functions but can be a rotational rusher with some pass-catching assignments as well given his 69 receptions on 85 targets in his final two seasons in college. Shipley is a better back right now than Kenneth Gainwell, but that hasn't stopped Philadelphia from giving Gainwell the snaps anyway in the past.
