  • Giants' Brian Burns: Logs sack in loss

Burns tallied four tackles (two solo), including 1.0 sacks, during the Giants' loss to the Eagles on Sunday. Burns was dealing with a hip injury throughout the week but ended up having a strong outing nonetheless, as he managed to record his 10th sack of the season. The 27-year-old is already just 2.5 sacks short of his career-high total set back in 2022, and he will look to add to his totals during the Week 9 matchup versus the 49ers.

Burns (hip) did not practice Wednesday but he is expected to play Sunday against the Eagles, Evan Barnes of Newsday reports. Burns originally was reported to have suffered a foot injury and was spotted in a walking boot after Sunday's game against Denver. • Giants' Brian Burns: Seen in walking boot

Burns was seen wearing a walking boot on his right foot in the locker room after Sunday's 33-32 loss to the Broncos, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports. The pass rusher finished the game with four tackles, including 2.0 sacks and an additional tackle for a loss. Burns has played on most of the defensive snaps for New York this season, and he now has 9.0 sacks in seven games. The Giants are deep on the edge, with Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux in addition to Burns, but the loss of the veteran would nonetheless impact the defense.

Burns tallied two tackles (one solo) in Saturday's preseason victory against the Jets. After logging just five defensive snaps in the Giants' first exhibition contest, Burns saw the field more with 15 snaps Saturday. The veteran defender will again be a key component of New York's pass rush in 2025, though it will be interesting to see how the team balances playing time and adjusts sets in order to feature all three of its talented edge rushers -- Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and prized rookie Abdul Carter.

  • Giants' Brian Burns: Contract restructured

The Giants converted $10 million of Burns' base salary into a signing bonus Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. According to Yates, the Giants signed 2025 third-overall pick Abdul Carter on Thursday and converted part of Burns' salary into a signing bonus to stay under the salary cap. The 2019 first-round pick made an impact in his first year with the Giants, recording 71 total tackles, including 8.5 sacks, and eight passes defended over 17 regular-season contests. He's now expected to be a part of one of the NFL's top pass-rush duos in 2025, starting opposite Carter.

  • Giants' Brian Burns: Has 8.5 sacks in first year with NY

Burns tallied 71 tackles, including 8.5 sacks, along with eight defensed passes and two forced fumbles over 17 regular-season games with the Giants in 2024. The Giants made a big splash when they traded for Burns in March and subsequently signed him to a five-year, $141 million contract. Though the team struggled to a 3-14 record, Burns proved to be a valuable addition, starting in all 17 of New York's contests and finishing second on the team with 8.5 sacks. The Florida State product also finished second on the Giants with eight pass defenses, which doubled the previous career-high total he established in both 2020 and 2021. Finally, Burns recorded a career-best 71 stops, buoying his IDP value in games when he wasn't able to take down the opposing quarterback. With four years left on his deal, Burns should remain a key part of New York's pass rush for the foreseeable future.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Thursday that Burns (ankle) will not practice but is expected to be available for Sunday's road matchup against the Falcons, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
