Seahawks' Rashid Shaheed: Seattle-bound in deadline deal

The Seahawks acquired Shaheed from the Saints on Tuesday in exchange for 2026 fourth- and fifth-round draft picks, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Widely expected to be moved ahead of Tuesday's deadline, Shaheed ultimately landed in Seattle, where he'll join a pass-catching corps that had been lacking in quality depth behind No. 1 option Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who leads the NFL with 948 receiving yards. After drawing 36 targets over his final four games with the Saints, Shaheed may lose out on a few looks with the move from New Orleans to Seattle, but his efficiency should improve while he gets an upgrade in quarterback play from Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough to Sam Darnold. In addition to providing the Seahawks with a deep-ball threat on offense to complement Smith-Njigba, Shaheed also excels as a punt returner, having averaged 12.6 yards on 64 career runbacks.

New Orleans' offense didn't show much improvement with their new signal-caller, but Shaheed had his third-most productive outing of the season, tallying at least 50 receiving yards for the fourth time. Shaheed logged season-high marks with nine catches and 12 targets last Sunday against Tampa Bay but also suffered a hip injury. He also has scored at least 14.5 PPR points in two of his past four games heading into Week 9 at the Rams. But with the quarterback switch to Tyler Shough, as well as a tough matchup against the Rams, I would only start Shaheed in deep three-receiver leagues. He only has two touchdowns on the season, and Shough could be running for his life in his first NFL start on the road. As for Chris Olave, I would still start him in all formats, but lower expectations for him in his first full game with Shough.

Shaheed was in uniform and warming up with the Saints' starters pregame, but he ultimately stayed on the sideline during Sunday's loss. He and Chris Olave (ankle) are the two wideouts who are guaranteed to have a starting spot for the Saints when healthy this season, so it's unlikely that either player will need to play much this preseason. The next opportunity for Shaheed and Olave to suit up this preseason will come versus Jacksonville on Sunday, Aug. 17.
