Broncos' Courtland Sutton: Strong start to preseason
Sutton caught all three of his targets for 60 yards in Friday's 27-7 preseason win over the Falcons.
Starting QB Bo Nix and WR Jaylen Waddle (leg) didn't dress Friday, but Sutton showed encouraging chemistry with backup QB Jarrett Stidham on Denver's first two drives. Sutton made a nice one-handed grab in addition to hauling in a 40-yard pass that got Denver down to the 1-yard line on the opening drive. The 30-year-old wideout looks like he's in midseason form already on the heels of back-to-back regular seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards.

Broncos' Courtland Sutton: Works on side field Thursday
Sutton, who was given his second consecutive off day Wednesday, per Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com, worked on a side field during position drills Thursday, Luca Evans of The Denver Post reports.
On Wednesday, coach Sean Payton indicated that Sutton would practice Thursday, and while the wideout was out there, as expected, he didn't appear to be working fully. With no injury having been reported thus far, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post suggests that this could simply be a load management week for Sutton, with added context regarding his status set to arrive during the Broncos' next practice.

Broncos' Courtland Sutton: Healthy per head coach
Head coach Sean Payton clarified after Thursday's practice that Sutton isn't injured, Luca Evans of The Denver Post reports.
Sutton worked on a side field Thursday following days off Tuesday and Wednesday. The veteran wide receiver is simply getting some time to rest ahead of his ninth season with the Broncos, and Payton said Thursday that Sutton will ramp up his activity in Friday's walkthrough as the Broncos prepare for their Aug. 14 preseason opener in Atlanta.

Broncos' Courtland Sutton: Could draw more 1-on-1 matchups
Sutton could benefit from more one-on-one matchups during the upcoming season following Denver's acquisition of Jaylen Waddle, Susanna Weir of the team's official site reports.
Waddle has averaged 77.5 catches for 1,049 yards and 7.5 touchdowns over the past two seasons as the Broncos' No. 1 wideout, and the team gave its WR room a dramatic new look in mid-March by dealing for Waddle. While the trade on one hand means Sutton is more of a 1A in the pecking order alongside Waddle, it may also mean the former will have more open looks with opposing defenses needing to focus heavy attention on Waddle. It remains to be seen how exactly the Broncos' offense will adjust to Waddle's presence, but with QB Bo Nix (ankle) expected to be good to go for the start of training camp and coming off a 2025 regular season during which he threw the most passes in the NFL, there should be adequate targets for both Sutton and Waddle to put up lofty receiving numbers.
