The Eagles let Covey go during Sunday's cutdown day. The wide receiver had a strong enough training camp to receive an invitation back to the team's practice squad. Covey participated in all three preseason games, catching five of his eight targets for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Eagles' Britain Covey: Catches two passes in exhibition finale
Covey played 29 offensive snaps in Friday's preseason loss to the Bengals, catching two of four targets for 20 yards.
Covey dealt with a hamstring issue in early August but was able to suit up for all three of Philadelphia's preseason contests. He caught five of eight targets for 44 yards and a touchdown during those games and also returned four punts for 38 yards. Covey hasn't done much as a pass catcher to this point in his NFL career, so his tough path to making the 53-man roster is probably more tied to his ability to return kicks.

Eagles' Britain Covey: Limited offensive work in 2025
Covey caught two of four targets for 20 yards across six regular-season games in 2025. Additionally, he tallied 125 kick-return yards and 124 punt-return yards.
Covey spent most of his 2025 campaign with Philadelphia's practice squad before joining the active roster ahead of Week 13. He was primarily limited to special teams, outside of the Eagles' Week 18 loss to the Commanders, when he caught two passes for 20 yards while playing 35 offensive snaps. The Utah product also did not log an offensive snap in the wild-card loss to the 49ers but tallied 61 kick-return yards. Set to enter unrestricted free agency, Covey could find work as a return specialist ahead of the 2026 season.

Eagles' Britain Covey: Logs first offensive snaps of 2025
Covey went without a target while playing four of the Eagles' 69 snaps on offense in Sunday's 31-0 win over the Raiders. He also returned three punts for 22 yards.
Sunday's contest marked the first time Covey received snaps on offense in his three appearances since the Eagles signed him off their practice squad Nov. 27. The 28-year-old is merely a depth piece at receiver and will continue to offer most of his value in the return game.

Covey is replacing safety Andrew Mukuba, who suffered an ankle injury last week against Dallas and landed on injured reserve. The wide receiver and return specialist has mostly seen action in the latter role in his career, producing more than 300 punt-return yards in both the 2022 and 2023 campaigns. That's where Covey may see action Friday against the Bears, especially with Xavier Gipson dealing with a shoulder injury and having lost a fumble last week against the Cowboys.

The veteran's final appearance in the preseason started off with quarterback Dresser Winn's first target of the game, which fell incomplete. More notable for Covey's chances of making the final 53-man roster was who wasn't out on the field Saturday, as Xavier Smith and Konata Mumpfield joined Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, Tutu Atwell and Jordan Whittington as players who head coach Sean McVay chose to rest. Covey caught three of six targets for 13 yards and returned one punt for two yards during Saturday's 23-22 preseason victory against the Chargers.
On a day where many of the Rams wideouts battling to make the final cut had excellent games, Covey struggled to get anything going. Xavier Smith, Covey's primary competition for a roster spot, secured all four of his targets for 49 yards and protected his spot as the sixth (and potentially final) wideout on the Rams' initial 53-man roster. Covey will get one last chance to make an impression for his new team against the Browns in next week's preseason finale for the Rams.

Covey caught both of his targets for 31 yards during Saturday's 31-21 preseason win versus the Cowboys.
The former Eagles wideout notched a nifty 26-yard gain on a deep pass from Stetson Bennett, but he didn't get an opportunity to showcase his skills as a return man, which was his primary role back in Philadelphia. Xavier Smith is his main competition for that role with the Rams, and his incumbent status likely has the edge over Covey so far to retain the role. Los Angeles signed Covey (neck) to a one-year contract Monday.
Covey spent last year with the Eagles, securing seven of eight targets for 34 yards across his five regular-season appearances. A neck injury sustained Week 13 forced Covey to land on IR, and though he resumed practicing in full late during the playoffs, he wasn't able to gain clearance in time to suit up for Philadelphia's win over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. Now healthy, Covey will compete for an opportunity to earn a depth role with the Rams.
