  • Shy Tuttle: Released by Panthers

Carolina released Tuttle on Tuesday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports. Tuttle took a pay cut early March, but he nonetheless won't stick on the Panthers' initial 53-man roster. He suited up for 15 regular-season games with the team in 2024 and totaled 46 tackles (22 solo), three passes defended and one forced fumble. Whether with Carolina or elsewhere in the league, Tuttle will be a candidate to resurface in a depth role this season.

  • Panthers' Shy Tuttle: Takes pay cut with Carolina

Tuttle agreed to a restructured contract with the Panthers on Monday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Tuttle is reportedly taking a $3.5 million pay cut to stay with the Panthers. He'll now earn $3 million in 2025, including $500,000 guaranteed. Tuttle started all 15 games in which he appeared last season, registering 46 tackles (22 solo), three pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. Carolina added free-agent pickups Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown to the defensive line mix Monday.

  • Panthers' Shy Tuttle: Plays increased role in 2024

Tuttle recorded 46 total tackles, three passes defended and one forced fumble across 15 games in 2024. With Derrick Brown (knee) sustaining a season-ending injury in the Week 1 loss to the Saints, Tuttle took on an increased role on the Panthers' defense in 2024. Despite missing two games this season, the 29-year-old interior defensive lineman played 51 more defensive snaps than he did in 2023. Tuttle's role will likely be reduced once Brown returns from injury in 2025; however, the Tennessee product is expected to remain a starter on the Panthers' defense following a relatively productive 2024 campaign.

  • Panthers' Shy Tuttle: Returning Sunday

Tuttle (foot) is active Sunday against the Bears. Tuttle hasn't played since Week 2. His return should be a boost to the Panthers' front seven with the Tennessee product locked into a significant role at nose tackle.

  • Panthers' Shy Tuttle: Won't play Sunday

Tuttle (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bengals, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. Tuttle will miss his second straight game. Nick Thurman started at nose tackle in Tuttle's place last week against the Raiders but played just 17 defensive snaps after the Raiders fell way behind and were unable to run the ball while chasing points on the scoreboard.

  • Panthers' Shy Tuttle: Misses Thursday's practice

Tuttle (foot) didn't practice Thursday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. It appears increasingly likely that Carolina will be without Tuttle for the second consecutive game in Week 4, as the 29-year-old has now opened the Panthers' week of practice with back-to-back DNPs. If Tuttle isn't upgraded to at least limited participation Friday, expect Nick Thurman to serve as Carolina's top nose tackle once again when the Panthers host the Bengals.

  • Panthers' Shy Tuttle: Still nursing injury

Tuttle (foot) didn't practice Wednesday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports. Tuttle didn't play in the Panthers' Week 3 win over the Raiders after missing the entire week of practice with a foot issue, and he still appears to be nursing the injury. The 28-year-old defensive tackle will likely need to upgrade to at least limited participation Thursday or Friday in order to suit up in Week 4.

  • Panthers' Shy Tuttle: Not playing Sunday

Tuttle (foot) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Raiders. Tuttle was listed as doubtful Friday after logging as a DNP for all three practices, and he won't travel with the team to Las Vegas. The 28-year-old nose tackle's next chance at suiting up will be Week 4 against the Bengals on Sept. 29. Nick Thurman is the next man up at nose tackle for the Panthers, and he'll anchor the interior of the defensive line alongside Jayden Peevy and A'Shawn Robinson (knee).

  • Saints' Shy Tuttle: Signs restricted tender

Tuttle signed his restricted free agent tender Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Tuttle saw his role increase during the 2021 season, and he responded with a career-high 48 tackles. He should retain a significant role along the Saints defensive line in 2022.

  • Saints' Shy Tuttle: Modest second-season production

Tuttle compiled 28 tackles (17 solo) and two passes defended across 13 regular-season games in 2020. After a promising rookie campaign in 2019, Tuttle improved his tackle numbers and enjoyed a boost in snaps per game, though he disappointingly provided no turnovers or sacks. Heading into his third season, the Tennessee product will look to take another step forward.
