  • Brian Allen: Retiring from football

Allen announced his retirement from pro football Wednesday. Even though he just turned 29 back in October, Allen has decided to hang up his cleats. His five-year career was complicated by serious injuries, including a knee issue that kept him out for the entire 2020 season. However, he came back for the 2021 season and started in 16 games, including the Rams' victory against the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.

  • Brian Allen: Gets look from New Orleans

The Saints worked out Allen (calf) on Tuesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. Allen signed with the Browns in April after spending the first six years of his NFL career with the Rams. He sustained a calf injury during training camp, which caused him to be placed on injured reserve and subsequently released with an injury settlement. Allen appears to be healthy and is attempting to catch on with a team in need of depth at center. The Saints are one of those teams after starting center Erik McCoy sustained a groin injury in Sunday's loss to the Eagles, and he is expected to be on the shelf for 6-to-8 weeks.

  • Browns' Brian Allen: Heads to IR

The Browns placed Allen (calf) on injured reserve Monday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Allen signed with the Browns earlier in the offseason after spending the first six years of his career with the Rams, but it now appears that he's dealing with a calf injury that's landed him on IR. Unless Allen is able to reach an injury settlement with the Browns, he's on track to miss all of Cleveland's 2024 campaign.

  • Browns' Brian Allen: Finds work in Cleveland

The Browns signed Allen on Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Allen spent the first six seasons of his career with the Rams but was released to save cap space earlier this offseason. He's played 50 NFL games, starting 32 of them, and he gives Cleveland some valuable depth on the interior of its offensive line. He should compete with 2022 seventh-rounder Dawson Deaton for top backup duties behind starting center Ethan Pocic.

  • Brian Allen: Let go by Rams

The Rams released Allen on Wednesday, Stu Jackson of the team's official site reports. Allen, a 2018 fourth-round pick, has spent his entire NFL career with the Rams and was a key part of the team's efforts in winning Super Bowl LVI. He inked a three-year extension with the team ahead of the 2022 season, but cutting Allen now saves the Rams roughly $4.9 million in cap space.

  • Rams' Brian Allen: In action for OTAs

Allen (calf) has been participating in OTAs, Cameron DaSilva of the USA Today reports. Allen was placed on injured reserve in December due to a strained calf, but is now past the issue and participating in OTAs. The 27-year-old appeared in seven games (all starts) during the 2022 campaign and should have the opportunity to reclaim his role as the team's top center this coming season.
