Bears' T.J. Edwards: Will return from NFI-A list soon
Edwards (calf) is set to return to training camp after a short absence, Chris Emma of 670TheScore.com reports.
Edwards hurt his calf before training camp, but the injury does not appear to be severe. The starting middle linebacker fractured his leg last season, so any leg-related issues may have to do with weakness correlated to that initial incident. In Edwards' 10 healthy starts during the 2025 regular-season campaign, he produced 67 tackles (33 solo) and five passes defensed for one interception, which was returned for a touchdown.

Bears' T.J. Edwards: Not ready for start of camp
The Bears placed Edwards (undisclosed) on the active/non-football injury list Saturday, Adam Hoge of AllCHGO.com reports.
Edwards suffered a fractured fibula in the Bears' wild-card win over Green Bay in January, but the issue he's currently dealing with has been deemed a "minor muscle strain," per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. That's relatively positive news, as the veteran linebacker is not expected to be sidelined for long. Injuries limited Edwards to just 10 regular-season games last year, but prior to that he had played in every regular-season contest for three straight campaigns.

Bears' T.J. Edwards: Working during full team drills
Edwards (lower leg) participated in full team drills during the Bears' minicamp session Tuesday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Edwards broke his fibula during Chicago's wild-card win versus the Packers in January, but it seems he's basically back to full strength. The veteran projects to start at middle linebacker in 2026 as long as he's healthy.

Edwards (lower leg) said Tuesday that he's progressing in his rehab from a fractured fibula and is aiming to be ready for Week 1, Chris Emma of 670TheScore.com reports.
Edwards suffered the injury in Chicago's wild-card win over the Packers back in January. "I will push as hard as I can to move it as quickly as possible, but I also want to be smart about it, too," Edwards said. "I'll be ready when it's time to go." After starting all 17 regular-season games in each of the previous three seasons, Edwards dealt with injuries in 2025 and made just 10 regular-season starts before his postseason injury.

The Bears placed Edwards (lower leg) on injured reserve Tuesday.
Edwards will miss the remainder of Chicago's postseason run due to a a fractured fibula suffered during Saturday's 31-27 wild-card win over the Packers. The loss of Edwards is particularly significant for Chicago, given that the team also placed Noah Sewell (Achilles) on IR in late December. In Edwards' stead, Amen Ogbongbemiga (concussion) may get a chance to start Sunday's divisional-round matchup against the Rams, if healthy.

Edwards banged his leg off a Packers wide receiver in accidental contact during the first half, and he was carted off the field with an air cast on his leg. While he's officially doubtful, it would be shocking to see him retake the field. This could conclude an injury-plagued season for Edwards, as he was able to suit up in only 11 total games.

Bears head coach Ben Johnson said after Saturday's 31-27 wild-card win over the Packers that Edwards sustained a fractured fibula during the contest, and the linebacker isn't expected to play again during Chicago's postseason run, Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Edwards was carted off the field with an air cast on his leg after suffering the injury during the first half of Saturday's game. Considering the nature of the issue, it's no surprise that he'll almost certainly be unable to return to action no matter how far Chicago advances in the playoffs. With Noah Sewell (Achilles) landing on injured list in late December and also done for the campaign, the Bears will likely turn to D'Marco Jackson or Amen Ogbongbemiga to serve as their primary defensive signal-caller for the rest of the postseason.

This news doesn't come as much surprise, as Edwards left the game on a cart with an air cast around his leg. His absence will leave a significant hole in the middle of Chicago's defense, particularly hurting it against the run.
