Ngakoue has been training for return to the NFL over the last several months, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.
Ngakoue has 71.5 career sacks and sat out the 2025 season to fully recover from the broken ankle he'd suffered during the 2023 campaign. Ngakoue felt that his performance in 2024, when he was waived by both the Ravens and Patriots, was impacted by the injury, leading to his decision to take a full season off. The 31-year-old is a free agent and will likely be trying out with multiple franchises in the coming months.

Yannick Ngakoue: Let go by New England
Ngakoue was waived by the Patriots on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Ngakoue was claimed off waivers by the Patriots on Nov. 8 after being let go by the Ravens one day earlier. He played in six games for New England and accumulated nine tackles (four solo) over that span. If he clears waivers, Ngakoue will have an opportunity to sign with a playoff-bound team before the end of the regular season.

Ngakoue won't play in Sunday's game against Chicago after being claimed off waivers by the Patriots on Friday, Mike Kadlick of CLNSMedia.com reports.
It would have been quite a feat for Ngakoue to have become familiar enough with New England's defensive playbook to be ready to suit up just two days after joining the team, and the Patriots are opting to hold out their new acquisition Sunday rather than pressing him into action. Ngakoue thus seems likely to make his New England debut Nov. 17 against the Rams.

Patriots' Yannick Ngakoue: Picked up by New England
The Patriots claimed Ngakoue off waivers Friday, Evan Lazar of the team's official site reports.
Ngakoue was signed to the Ravens' active roster Oct. 14 after being signed to the practice squad in late September. He was let go by Baltimore on Thursday, and because that occurred after the Nov. 5 trade deadline, Ngakoue was placed on waivers rather than released, which New England took advantage of Friday. Ngakoue played a rotational role at defensive end with the Ravens, and the 2016 third-round pick will likely do the same with the Patriots behind starters Daniel Ekuale (abdomen) and Keion White.

The outside linebacker signed with the team's practice squad in September and saw limited action in the last two games. Ngakoue, who recorded four sacks in 13 games for the Bears in 2023, will likely serve as a rotational pass rusher now that he's taking a permanent spot on Baltimore's roster.

Ngakoue's time on the practice squad will likely be limited, as the 29-year-old is expected to be added to Baltimore's active roster once he ramps up his workload and gets reacquainted with the team's defense.
