Hunter Niswander: Let go by Cowboys
The Cowboys have waived Niswander (back), Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Niswander spent the 2021 season on IR, but Gehlken relays that the punter now is fully recovered from the back injury that shelved him last year. The 27-year-old will look to catch on elsewhere, with Bryan Anger in line to reprise his duties as Dallas' punter in 2022.

Cowboys' Hunter Niswander: Shifts back to IR
The Cowboys activated Niswander (undisclosed) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Cowboys' Hunter Niswander: Enters COVID protocols
Niswander (illness) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports, which was a result of testing positive for the virus, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Niswander was already on IR and out for the season due to an undisclosed injury when he went on the COVID list. He can now go back to focusing on preparing for a return in the 2022 season.

Cowboys' Hunter Niswander: Reverts to IR
Niswander (undisclosed) reverted to the Cowboys' injured reserve Friday, per the NFL transactions log.
Niswander was originally waived/injured by Dallas but ended up going unclaimed. Thus, he is now looking at a season on the IR unless he and the team reach and injury settlement down the line. The 26-year-old handled most of the team's punting duties during its first two preseason games. He also converted four of his six field-goal attempts. It is unclear what the nature of his injury is at this time.

Hunter Niswander: Let go by Dallas
Niswander was waived/injured by the Cowboys on Thursday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Niswander handled most of the punting duties during the Cowboys' first two preseason games and converted on four of his six field-goal attempts while filling in for Greg Zuerlein (back). However, the 26-year-old apparently sustained an injury of his own and will be waived with an injury designation. The nature of the issue isn't yet known, but Niswander will revert to injured reserve if he goes unclaimed on waivers. Bryan Anger will serve as the Cowboys' full-time punter now that Niswander has been waived.

Cowboys' Hunter Niswander: Perfect in Friday's action
Niswander connected on all three of his field-goal attempts and his only extra-point attempt in Friday's preseason loss to the Cardinals.
The 26-year-old handled all the placekicking duties on the night while splitting punting duties with Bryan Anger, who's expected to have that job during the regular season. Niswander's handled the FGs and PATs for Dallas while Greg Zuerlein continues recovering from offseason back surgery, but Zuerlein looked good in a workout prior to Friday's contest and doesn't seem to be in danger of missing Week 1 -- likely leaving Niswander off the roster entirely.

Cowboys' Hunter Niswander: Handling kicking work to begin camp
Niswander will handle the kicking duties to begin training camp while Greg Zuerlein recovers from offseason back surgery, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Zuerlein has been placed on the preseason PUP list while he rehabs from his procedure, but he'll likely be ready for Week 1 since the Cowboys don't have another kicker on the roster in training camp. In addition to filling in for Zuerlein, Niswander should compete with Bryan Anger for the Week 1 starting job at punter.
