  • Devontae Booker: Gets look from Giants

Booker had a tryout with the Giants on Thursday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.

Booker was a part of the running back mix for the Giants last season, partly due to Saquon Barkley dealing with injuries for a second consecutive year. Booker and Barkley were co-leaders for the team on the ground with 593 yards apiece, but Booker actually was more efficient with this rushes (4.1 YPC versus 3.7) than Barkley. On top of that, Booker hauled in 40 of 45 passes for 268 yards and notched three total touchdowns. As the Giants' roster currently stands, Matt Breida in the most experienced reserve RB, so Booker may slot in directly behind Barkley again if the team brings him back.

  • Devontae Booker: Let go by Giants

The Giants cut Booker on Wednesday.

As expected, Booker was released to create $2.1 million in cap savings for the Giants ahead of the new league year. Booker appeared in all but one of the Giants' 17 games in 2021, making four starts while top back Saquon Barkley was out of the lineup and serving as the top complement when Barkley was in the lineup. The 29-year-old wrapped up what proved to be his lone season with the Giants with 593 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to go with 40 receptions for 268 yards and another score. He'll likely find an opportunity elsewhere as a reserve back.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Time in New York ending

The Giants plan to cut Booker on Wednesday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

Per the report, the anticipated move would create $2.1 million in cap savings for the Giants, while leaving $1 million in dead money. While working behind Saquon Barkley in 2021, Booker finished the campaign with 593 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 145 carries to go with 40 catches for 268 yards and one score on 45 targets. The 2016 fourth-round pick, who turns 30 in May, is a candidate to catch on elsewhere as a backup option out of the backfield in the coming weeks.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Solid season as backup

Booker finished 2021 with 593 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 145 carries for a 4.1 YPC. He also caught 40 passes for 268 yards and one TD on 45 targets.

As Saquon Barkley's backup, Booker did a solid job filling in and handling both early-down and pass-catching duties when needed, and he wound up posting nearly identical numbers to Barkley. Booker will be 30 next year, but he's under contract for another season and is likely to reprise his role as the Giants' No. 2 back.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Gets 20 touches in ugly loss

Booker rushed 18 times for 46 yards and caught two of three targets for no gain in Sunday's 29-3 loss to Chicago.

Booker played second fiddle to Saquon Barkley (21 carries for 102 yards) on the ground, but he saw a sizable workload himself and also accounted for half of Mike Glennon's four completions as the struggling Giants offense hit a new low. While Booker should continue to play a prominent role in Week 18 against Washington, it's tough to trust anybody on a Giants offense that has produced just 19 points over the past three games combined.

  • Giants' Devontae Booker: Gets 10 touches in loss

Booker rushed six times for 27 yards and secured all four of his targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 34-10 loss to the Eagles.

Booker played 52 percent of the Giants' offensive snaps Sunday, while starter Saquon Barkley was in on just 34 percent of snaps. Even with the added work, Booker couldn't get much going. With Mike Glennon and Jake Fromm running the show at quarterback, the New York offense has been one of the NFL's weaker units since Daniel Jones (neck) suffered what was ultimately a season-ending injury.
